    Hi

I am the owner of a Tannoy arena highline system and the subwoower ts500 is making a very loud chirping noise.

Is there any recommendation how to deal with this problem?

    Best regards

Nigel67 Hi Pribalta. This could be a component in the power supply that is starting to fail. Its very difficult to give a definitive answer without us taking a look at it. I would advise that you send it in to us for repair by clicking on the support tab at the top of the page and in the new window that opens, scroll down to the service tab and submit a ticket.

      • Chirping sound in subwoofer
Pribalta Thanks Nigel. The issue happens when the device is connected, if the input cable is removed the sound disappears. The device was bought 5 years ago so unfortunately the warranty has expired. Nevertheless I appreciate you taking time to look into this. I will first reach out to a local electronics store and see what can be done.

      • Chirping sound in subwoofer
Nigel67 Have you confirmed that the problem is not the device that is feeding the sub? Do you have anything else that you can plug into the sub to see if the noise re-appears or not. I would also try a different cable, although if a ground was broken the noise wouldn't sound like the noise you are hearing. i would definitely try another source and cable before taking the sub apart.

I see the there is a newer version of the XT8F.

-Do the newer models have improved drivers?
-Are they interchangable with the original XT8F?
    -What are their specs/cost?

ChrisEdwards1 Hi Bascule, upon review, it appears you have a pair of DC1000 from the Series 90 range. I have included a copy of the brochure for you in the link below if this is of any help.

A couple of years ago, I bought a house that had a theater room in the basement.  The previous owner left the rear speakers installed in the wall.  I pulled one out and learned they are Tannoy iw60 efx boxes.  I found the manual online.  I'm a speaker noob.  I read the cinema mode is 4 ohms while a music mode is 8 ohms.  My receiver only goes down to 6 ohms.  So, I assume I need the speakers to be in music mode.  I have no clue how to do this.  I would appreciate any help.  Also, advice on whether these will be good rear surround speakers would be great.  Thanks!

PedroRodrigues Hi JD23 when using the Tannoy iW60 EFX I would recommend having a Amplifier Power that offers the following power and impedance 100 - 200 W @ 8 Ohms and power handling of Average 100 W; Programme 200 W; Peak 400 W so you must look for power amplifier that offers these specifications to avoid any issues. Thank you

JD23 Thank you for the reply. I am wondering how to make the speakers 4 ohms vs 8 ohms. Aside from the normal red and black pair of banana plugs, there is a green connector on the back with a place to insert 4 wires and set screws to tighten down on them. The holes are marked two with a plus and two with a minus. Does this have something to do with the resistence?

Tibox12 hello, I was on bluetooth.
I no longer have a problem, I haven't done anything special.
Maybe a bug with my bluetooth, I changed my smartphone and the problem is solved by itself.

    Grazie Danilo

Timons I love the idea of this product. I am in the US and am having a hard time finding a source to buy them. B&H lists the PCI series on their site, but says they may only have them available on April 16th (3 months from now!) Any suggestions?

Hello, I wired my System 1200 in biamp mode, using an electronic crossover, I would like to know how and if I have to detach the one inside the speakers.

    kind regards

      DavidKnighton Hello Andrea,
Generally speaking, most 2-way speakers will have a built in crossover, so you don't need to use an external crossover. If you favor an external crossover, you do need to connect the external crossover outputs straight to the low/high drivers directly, bypassing the internal crossover. This might be a problem for you, as the System 1200 appears to only have a single pair of terminals. For external Bi-Amp, you'd need two pairs of terminals, one pair connecting to the low driver, and one pair connecting to the high driver. This will require some modification to the cabinet in order to work. If you want my opinion on the matter, you should leave the cabinet as is and utilize the internal crossover, as the system sounds stellar on it's own.

      AndreaPoli Hi, David
First of all I wanted to thank you for answering me,
the System 1200 model has two terminals, the first for the bass and the second for the highs, luckily I just had to disconnect the internal crossover and rewire the tweeter and the woofer to the correct terminals, the sound is incredible, you just need to have some tricks in the calibration of the external crossover which has now been set up correctly. Thanks again for the advice??

        DavidKnighton Hello Andrea,
That's odd, the one I was looking at online appeared to only have a single pair of terminals. It's possible I was looking at the wrong model. Can you send a pic of your rear panel?

I have four CVS 6 ceiling speakers that have a transformer tap control. These speakers will be the front elevation and rear surround. Can anyone please tell me what setting I should use for a home receiver that does 100 W x7 at 6 or 8 ohms?

    • Riehmulus
      DavidKnighton Hello Riehmulus,
For 8 Ohm output on a home receiver, you need to tap the LoZ setting on the transformer. Any other setting will go through a transformer tap, and you don't really want that for a home receiver.

Riehmulus Awesome. Is there a recommended pin usage for the molex connector?
      • Jan 15
    • Riehmulus
Riehmulus I used pin 1 & 2 on one speaker and 3 & 4 on another and seems to get the same output level

      • Tannoy CVS 6 transformer tap
DavidKnighton Are you referring to the speaker input? I do believe 1/2 is parallel to 3/4, so it shouldn't really matter. These speakers are designed to be daisy chain in the masses, but only in 70V/100V operation.

    Hi all,

I have just been given a Tannoy TS12 and I want to add it to my hifi system of a Rotel RA10 Rotel 980 BX and Tannoy M3's. The 980BX just has 2 outputs for speakers so I will have to combine the speaker wires of the Sub with a set of the speakers (does it matter which one) also where on the sub do I attach them?

Oh and is this a good idea

    Cheers

    Andy

PedroRodrigues Hi Andrew that effectively depends what speakers you are using and how you wish to use your Tannoy Sub, never the less the best option is to check the Manual for this unit where you have all the information you require https://wsi.li/dl/waQXZ235uGvZgeWR2/ .Thank you

AndrewKing Hi Pedro, Just check out the manual and I cannot see any practical advices how would you wire the sub woofer to the set up and I have just swapped my Tannoy speakers into another room and so this set up will be running Monitor Audio BX2 Thanks

      • How to wire a TS12 sub woofer
PedroRodrigues Hi Andrew please consider that you need to to use a cable as stated below to interface your speakers first with an amplifier and them with the Sub. Please follow the signal flow stated on the Tannoy TS12 picture considering that the output of the Amp will input o the sub and the outputs on the sub should connected to the Mains on your system. Thank you
