    Hello all,

The AV dept at our casino received 4 new iPads running iPadOS 15.7, so I figured I'd configure them all at once for the XR18, along with our existing iPad running iPadOS 16.1. XR18 firmware is up to date. All 5 iPads are Gen6. Only difference is the iPadOS version. No beta versions. Downgrading the OS isn't an option, though I wish it was.

The 4 new 15.7 iPads run X-Air flawlessly, but the 16.1 crashes within a minute or so. If i try the Setup tab it crashes immediately. It even crashes in "demo" mode, so it's not a network issue.

I know there hasn't been an X-Air app update for a while. Has anyone else had this issue?

philipangell44 This is a pretty big issue for iPad users. Why isn’t Behringer commenting?

Someone opened a ticket with Music Tribe about iPadOS 16.1 and X/M Air and Music Tribe responded about the M32 App for iPad needing to be completely replaced and updated. Nothing to do with the question or issue. Frustrating.

Update: I opened a ticket with Music Tribe. They replied promptly saying they cannot update the X/M Air apps to be compatible with iPadOS 16.1. They need to completely rewrite the apps from scratch. They need to hire programmers and it will be a lengthy process. They suggested Mixing Station.

I am using an X32 Rack mixter connected to an S16 box.  Normally it connects fine, but suddenly it does not, with an intermittent blinking green AES50 Network light on the S16 unit rather than the solid one I am used to.  The X32 box is working perfectly, but cannot see the S16 as it usually can.  I have tried lots of things, ruled out physical connections as the source, and note that when the refresh rate is changed from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz on the X32 there is no blinking light.  I have done the usual reads through the manual and the web, and encountered a video solving a similar problem with clock speed changes, but it didn't help me.  Anyone have some advice?  Do I have a bad S16 unit?  Thanks.

Paul_Vannatto Check to make sure the S16 does not have the SN Master light on. If it does, change the mode to 0 or 1.

I have input lineup & wanted the 2 keyboards that are inoputs 6/7 & 8/9 to be stereo.

In order to link them the Left channel needs to be the odd #. In inpot 5 I have a guitar.

I went to the INOUT page & switched the Guitar analog & USB returns to In /Out 9 & 9 respectively & then modified the 2 keyboards to 5/6 & 7/8.

On the screen it shows  the guitar still in the "5" position followed buy the 4 inputs with the keys. Is there a way to "slide" the guitar input on the mixer screen (& all others) to appear in numerical order in the 9 position (after both keys as it reads at the bottom under the mute tab ?

    Thanks

Paul_Vannatto Yes there is a way. First save the scene to a file using X-Air-Edit (for Windows, Mac, linux or Raspberry Pi) that is connected to the XR18. Then import that scene file into X-Air Scene Parser. Select the desired surface inputs (ch 1-8 and/or ch 9-16) and click on the Ch Arrange button (below the Surface Output column). Then use the channel arranger tool to drag the channels to the left or right. When they are in the order you want, determine the range (first chan, last chan) and if you want the channel's inputs included. The click on the Transfer button. It will parse out (extract) the required OSC lines and place them in the Results Editor. Choose where you want the output file to go and click on the Output button. This will make a modified scene file with only the OSC command lines for those channels. Finally load that scene file into X-Air-Edit (connected to XR18) and it will reorder the channels as desired.

My laptop uses an ethernet connection from the X32 for my internet connection.  It is sparodic lately.  Is there a way that I can troubleshoot this?  How can I ensure that I am setting this up correctly?  Is there a white paper on setting this up?

dascottmfa Are you saying your X32 has a wifi card and is connected to your wireless (wifi) LAN router and that you have disabled your laptop's wifi and instead use a cat5 cable directly connected to the X32 to obtain internet connectivity? Why such an odd way to get internet to your laptop? Doesn't its built-in wifi work? Why not connect both your laptop and X32 to your LAN with cat5? Distance too far to run cables?

We are considering adding an S16 Digital Snake to our X32 mixer at our church. The primary purpose is to add more microphone inputs in our music/choir area in our church sanctuary.  We have some questions about the cable.  We have a regular unshielded Cat5E ethernet port/cable available in the music area that we could potentially re-purpose for this usage (we know that it would have to be disconnected from our current data network) but not sure if it would be adequate or if we need to run new cable.  It is about a 150 ft cable run which should be within the AES50 specs of 100meters (or the reduced spec of 80 meters I have seen elsewhere.

    Questions:

    1. Would the repurposed Cat5E unshielded ethernet cable be adequate?
    2. Would couplers (i.e. such as having to connect a separate cable to an existing wall plate used for the existing cable) on the cable create problem?
    3. If we have to run new cable -
      1. Cat5e versus Cat6?
      2. Shielded versus unshielded?
      3. Ethercon barrels or not?

Thank you for any comments or experience you might have on this.

VickiBarnes Not an expert, but in my opinion, definitely shielded cat6. In my experience no ethercon needed.

Paul_Vannatto Hi Jim, most definitely use shielded cable with ethercon ends in order to eliminate the possibility of dropouts due to ESD (electrostatic discharge). The cable can be cat5e, cat6, cat7 or cat8. I have a mixture of cat6 and cat7. Instead of paying for cables with ethercon ends, I get pre-terminated shielded cables (from Amazon, Newegg, etc.) and get the ethercon ends from B&H. Then add them to the cable (carefully removing the plastic boots from the cable ends).

Here is the link to the ethercon ends

Our church is considering buying either an Behringer SD8 or SD16 or S16 digital snake.  We have an x32 as our main mixer in the sound booth.  When I look at the product information on sweetwater, it claims that the Networking capability for the SD8 and SD16 is 168ft where as the S16 is listed at 328ft.  I thought AES50 was rated at 100meters.  Why is the SD8/SD16 networkinig distance 1/2 of what is shown for the S16 and the AES50 specification?

I am not an audio expert, so any guidance on what any other differences are between the SD8/SD16 and the S16 would be appreciated (yes, I already know that the SD8 only has 8 inputs and that their are price differences) but I am trying to sort out the practical, technical differences between the SD* products and the S*products.  Our major goal is to expand the number of microphone outlets in our choir area without having to run a bunch of audio cables.

    Thanks.

DaveMorrison The AES50 distance has been downgraded by Behringer since launch. It's now about 80m. Some people are successful connecting at greater distances. The SD8/16 and S16/32 distance are the same. The SD 8/16 are nice in that they both have 1/4" TRS and XLR combo inputs. The S16 has some cool features that probable aren't useful for you. If you are looking at the S16, then the Midas DL16 provides better sound with the same features. IIRC Midas products rate their AES50 products at 100m.

GaryHiggins The SD series boxes also have several ultranet powered ports which are very handy for personal mixers and thus not needing wall warts to power them. They are also much more of a true stage box in that they have rubber bumpers for stage placement, easy to deploy pretty much anywhere. As Dave noted the distance figures for aes50 have been shifted down a bit. I noted recently at the very bottom of the DL32 manual, they say that they guarantee 50m, 80 meters is quite ikely. I believe the 100m figure is not supported any longer, some cables may be ok at that length, some not.

Hello everyone, I'm in dire need to find a replacement power supply for my S16 stage box. I tried using the Behringer's portal and raised a care ticket, but it seems that nowadays it is difficult to ship parts to the Seychelles and i've been asked to try alternative ways and try to contact other service centres. So far, the centres i've contacted don't have the spare. Any help please will be very much appreciated. Thanks

How do you monitor with headphones when using a tablet or phone to control an XR18, X32 when in the need of soloing a channel?

As it only transfers commands and not audio you have to plug your cans in the mixer or use wireless beltpacks...

So I would like to know how do you approach this.

Thanks in advance to all comments and suggestions.

Nigel67 Hi GizmoG_Alvarez. You have answered your own question there. If the XR18/X32 is not within a short distance where you can use wired headphones, then your only option would be to go wireless.

Paul_Vannatto I use to use headphones and solo channels when I used analog consoles. But when I switched over to the X32 Rack, I forced myself to learn to rely on my ears, the meters and the RTA. Same with the X-Air/M-Air consoles.

GizmoG_Álvarez Finding spontaneous crackle, noise... or EQing is a task one should do soloing.
One can rely on visual information when finding feedback or broad issues, but eqing a voice or similar tasks using visual information is not the right way. That's the way one uses his ears, not looking at what a RTA says.

Paul_Vannatto You asked "how do people approach this" and I gave my approach - only to be knocked down.

As I mentioned, I use to use headphones - they were either on my ears or around my neck. But when I switched to the X32 Rack (Oct 2014), I was forced to adapt, since I fell in love with the freedom of not being tied to a snake. I disagree that to find crackle, noise as well as EQing vocals, drums, etc. requires soloing. Actually it is much better to EQ to the equipment (speakers, etc) and venue ambiance than to cans (headphones).

I do sound for 60+ events per year (except the pandemic years) using X32 Rack, MR18 or Wing (depending on the event/band/venue) and have learned to rely on this method with great success. It is a learning curve and takes a lot of effort. But it is well worth it in the end.

KyleJohnson Hello, Kyle here with Music Tribe. In order to control the Flow 8 you can use your mobile device (smartphone or tablet running Android or iOS). The FLOW 8 apps are available on both downloads stores. You will, however, need to update the FLOW 8 to be compatible with the latest app versions, the update requires a Mac or PC. You must download the updater software from the FLOW 8 webpage and connect the FLOW 8 via USB to your computer to process the update. I'd recommend trying to find a place where you can connect your computer to the internet and perform the update.
