    Hi,
I am planning to buy a VLT2 because I need some choir/group effects but I'm not satisfied with my Critical Mass stompbox that has a specific destination and, in my opinion, gives an effect more similar to a gate reverb rather than a group of vocalist effect.
Please, anyone can tell me if the CHOIR effects of Touch 2 is similar to Critical Mass or his effects are more near to a group of persons (without that "reverbered" sound)?

    Thanks!

Roblof The fx on the voicelive are tweakable compared to the critical mass so it is easier for you to get closer to a desired effect.

Have you tried the critical mass without the reverb engaged? You can always use it together with the voicelive to fatten things up.

It is said that not even the vl3x has enough processing power to do what the critical mass does.

      MarcoZumpano Hi Robert,

      thanks for your reply!

yes, I've tried to use the Critical Mass only with the FX function (and without the reverb) but, for the kind of algorithm it uses it seems to me that the effect has a "slow and late attack" so the sound appears a bit confused.

I have also a Harmony Singer pedal and with it the harmonies are very close in time to the dry voice, and it works great! Maybe, as you said, the processing power needed for the Mass effect is so huge that appears (to me) as a "slowness" in the effected sound.

That's why I'm asking about the VLT2; to understand if its choir effects will give the prompt response as the Harmony Singer (very fast, and that I love) or as the Critical Mass (too much heavy in terms of musical timing for my purposes).

Do you have infos about this?

      Thanks you!

Roblof I only have the critical mass and vl3x so I can’t talk about the touch specificly.

I think that you need to demo a touch to determine if the processing is your cup of tea.

I just got my Play Acoustic. When i scroll down the presets with my foot, the last one is number 111, an empty preset. Then i have to go all the way back to go to number 1

I cant go to preset no 1 right after 111

is it correct or my pedal has a problem??

Plus i couldnt find any info on how find those empty preset locations (are there 500?)

The manual isnt explanatory enough. I watched all the videos on youtube.

The explanation of the presets , user presets and choosing ur presets differently doesnt seem enough.

If you have a certain group of presets that you like, either factory created or ones that you've created you can store them anywhere you want. You can also mark them as "Favorites" and only show the genre "Favorites" with the up/down arrows.

What I've done to make playing live easier is to group all the presets I'll likely use in a 4-hour show starting at 116. Even if the original preset is 1 I can store it at 116 (or whatever number you chose) to make it easier to scroll through live.

So I have 116 = single harmony, 117 = two-part harmony, 118 = room ambiance, 119 = Behind Blue Eyes, 120 = single harmony, etc. This way I can scroll back and forth between different 1 and 2 part harmonies to mix them into songs so I'm not always going back to the same presets during the same song over and over again.

I'm still experimenting with my live applications. I really wish there were cleaner guitar starting points so I could add subtle harmonies while my Taylor still sounded like my Taylor. I'm sure there is a way I just need to dive in deeper - lots going on under the hood with this device.

Sorry to need such elementary tutoring, but could you go step by step how you would make a preset that had for example, a single harmony on the verse, two part on chorus, no harmony on the bridge.

You would need to make one preset for each and put them in a row. Unfortunately, if the first preset has the single harmony for the verse and you are on the third without harmony on the bridge, and now you need to go back to the verse, you have to tapdance on the buttons to get back to the first one. So unfortunately what you need to do is analyze the structure of the song and create a sequence of presets, one for each song part, so you can step through them. Cumbersome.

I am campaigning for a new feature so that you can set up a row of up to 6 presets, then plug in the new S6 switch panel and tell it which patch is the first, then you can jump to any preset within that group of 6.

If Harm Moment is on, then the harmony only sounds whilst you are actually pressing the button.

Maybe the idea might be taken up - maybe not. I'm hoping.

Im having trouble seperating the signals on my two microphones. I'm using both xlr inputs on a xenyxq1002, panning channel one hard left, two hard right, but it has no effect. The light-up meter in the main section shows both L and R signals evenly. What am I missing??

Hello Arturo, welcome to the community.

Panning each channel hard to opposite sides should separate them in the mix output.  Do you have any connections to other channels and/or the FX or 2-Track? If you turn the level of one mic right down, do you still see the other mic on both L and R meters? Do you have any of the buttons on the right of the mixer pressed?

What software are you using to record from the mixer? If the problem is only apparent in the recording, it may be caused by track settings.

I was at a show last week and I had a weird wifi problem with the internal wifi in the XR18. I know ALL about using an external router though I do take one with me I've never had an issue so I just thought I would just use the internal.

Well here is what happened.... I connected with just my laptop and everything was fine during setup and the first set. During the break between first and second set I decided to change the wifi channel to a more open one ( I forgot to do that step earlier). Well I scanned the area, found an open channel and set the Edit software to that channel and confirmed it was on that channel (8). Everything seemed fine until I went to then connect my Ipad. The mixer icon on the initial app screen kept appearing and disappearing and when I would try to choose it, it would stop loading data and disappear again and again and as soon as that started happening the laptop lost it's connection as well. I lost control of the mixer and both were 1 foot away from the XR18. I tried everything to get it to connect but no luck. It was so bad I had to quickly hardwire to ethernet. Now I know everyone is going to say don't use the internal wifi and I know that is better but I don't understand why it would have an issue like this... Something tells me there is more bugs in the firmware, apps, or programs....

KevinKommit I don't suspect a bug. Its more a limitation of the wireless protocol 802.11.6 that's in the built in router. When you set everything up there were probably a lot few people in the room. When you changed channels every device in the place probable saw it as a new network and started making inquiries. If your antenna was buried with mic and power cables and the mixer was near the floor, both of which were probably true, that also contributes to wifi issues.

Since you are already expecting this I don't want to disappoint...Never use the built in router for gigs. There are just so many reasons why. Linksys and Netgear and other router companies spend a lot of money designing the best router.

If nothing else using an external router gives you the option to have a laptop hardwired into the mixer at the same time as you have wifi.

Now you found out why we all say never use the built in router except in your house.

TimLilek The mixer was on a table. Antenna up. The laptop was right next to it. The Ipad was in my hands no more than 2 feet away from the mixer. All cables draped over the table edge. Nothing was buried.

What you describe, I guess can make sense. I'd like to know for sure if that could the case... I can't see how a signal THAT CLOSE could not make a connection. I would expect range issues but being so close I would have thought I could at least connect... Maybe the issues with wifi in general IS the big elephant in the room with these mixers... I wonder if the M18 had a better router..

What would you recommend for a good router under $125? I have a Netgear that I take with me but I'm not convinced that THAT would have been any better.

GeraldCampbell Yes do yourself a favor just use an external router at gigs don't rely on the internal one ever! Also if you have a laptop run that over an Ethernet cable to the router that way if you do have wifi issues you have a wired backup.

AntonioQuartaro Hi everibody, I'd like to share my experience with all you.

Yesterday I had a gig with my band in a square next to a lake.

Soundcheck was great using the internal wifi of XR18 with non problem like all other times I used it.

Between check and 10 minute after gig was sterted on laptop connected in wifi to the XR18 there was a message Try Reconnect??

Yes and yes and yes but no more connections was able to be instaured!!

Turn off and on many times during a stop but nothing. I had used a eth cable to continue the gig.

But after show I tested with an app the wifi nex to me... all channel was so full of signal.

I suppose that the wifi don't have great power so the other wifi in the square had compomise the connection.

      May have sense??

Wow, that's a big tour! I would very much doubt the card will be ready. As to the screen, I have heard 2 versions, 1) It can be fixed with firmware. 2) Some units may actually be faulty and need repair. I have my own theory about it. If it's going to go bad, it will do so right away or at least early on. If it's been working all along without the issue, it probably will be fine. In your case (because of a long and gruelling tour) I would strongly suggest bringing a backup mixer!

I had this amazing old school repair person from long ago who was very fond of saying. Electronic devices like 2 states, either always on or always off. I have left my Wing on for multiple long stretches in hopes that if was going to fail (screen wise or otherwise)it would do it early on. It has not and I feel like I have a stable unit which will continue to work as intended. That all said-I would still bring a backup mixer just in case Hope you have a great tour!

EDIT: Now that we have Wing Mixing Station for Apple, Android AND Win10 operating systems you can always use it even if the screen goes nuclear!

It seems I learned the hard way that this amp does not support passive subwoofers. Also, after hooking up my passive monitor I seemed to encounter the same problem.

Does the K3000FX require active subwoofers and active monitors? Anyone know if it might be possible/worth it to make a passive device active?

Thanks in advance for any input.

      JohnDiNicola Hi Tom,

The Subwoofer, Link, & Line outputs on the K3000FX are standard line-level outputs. This means that you can connect them directly to an Active Speaker as you describe. If you wish to use a Passive Sub or Speaker, you will need to use a Power Amp between the speaker and this output (such as our iNuke Series NU1000). The line outputs on the amp are also useful for feeding to a mixer, such as a scenario where you are using the amp on stage as a monitor and sending signal to the house mixer. Hope it helps!

Help me figure this one out.

Using an xr16 with Android tablet.

Was at a show today and couldn't get any output in the mains.

I could see my meters for each channel lighting up and doing their thing. I had sound in the aux busses. But no sound in mains and main meters were not lighting up. Mains were not muted.

I spent about 10 min trying to figure it out. Never did. Passed the tablet around to my band mates, everyone tried everything they could think of. Thought we were going to have to turn the monitors to the crowd.

Suddenly the mains start working and main meters lit up. Nobody seems to know what did the trick.

Any ideas? I really don't like not knowing. What settings or configuration could cause the channels to not send their output to the mains?

CraigFowler Channels have an LR assignment button that could have been switched off.

      Mutegroups\DCA shenanigans.

You could have been routing channels to subgroups, and the subgroup>lr assignment could have been switched out, or muted via its own mute\mutegroup\dca.

If PA was being fed directly by the subgroup, subgroup might not have been routed to relevant sockets.

LR might not have been assigned to the right sockets on the console (potential issues with monitor bus here too.)

Other people playing around with remote controls, midi commands inadvertently recalling scenes etc.
      • September 9, 2017
    • AlbertMitchell
AlbertMitchell Hmmm... I think the most likely culprits were the lr assignment buttons or my dca groups.

What about gates? If there were gates on the channels I was testing with too high a threshold would that produce this result? Do the channel meters show the input signal pre-gate?
      • September 9, 2017
    • AlbertMitchell
CraigFowler Meters are at the input pre-gate (unless you deliberately set channel solo to AFL in the metering options.) At least it is on the X32, I'm 99.9% sure it would be the same on XAir.

However if the default send options were in place, if the gate thresholds were too high you wouldn't get any signal in monitors either, whereas signal in monitors but not LR is likely to be a post-fader send issue (eg DCA\mute groups.)

Right, that makes sense. I'm betting it was the DCA group the vocals were assigned to. I'd forgotten I'd put them all in a group together.

DonaldMcNany Had a similar issue last night. Loaded an existing show. No main outputs. Checked all mutes, DCAs, etc. The CD input was NOT assigned to any group, mute, or DCA. Connected one side to Aux Out 1, had sound. Reconnected that cable to main left, now had sound there, not on the right. After checking a couple things, I checked the main output screen. The PAN was fully LEFT. Centered that, now have sound in both mains. Thing is, I NEVER adjust the PAN.

Then, when plugging in four wireless mic units, bumped the power cable to the router and that caused a noise spike and that cut the system output again. I had a CD playing for test purposes. properly connected the router power, no sound output. So I cycled the XR18 power, reloaded the show and all was well.

Hello @kailert , welcome to the community.

To access all 32 channels on the X32, you need to install the X-USB Windows driver. You can get it from X32 Downloads. The driver supports 32/32 channels using the ASIO interface.

Remove the ASIO4ALL drivers completely. They will interfere with the full functionality of the ASIO drivers that Rex @RexBeckett pointed you to.

So my overall issue is playback. I know how to route everything using just the ASIO functions, and I've already gotten multitrack recordings done, but I can't hear the recorded audio when I play it back.

I was using ASIO4all to try to route playback to my computer soundcard to see if that would work. So I'm still trying to figure out how to get playback working correctly. @RexBeckett

Do you want to play the recorded tracks back through the individual channels on the X32 so you mix them on the console? Or do you want to mix on your DAW and play back a stereo mix through your console?

I unplugged my expression and volume pedals while the G was turned on. That was a NO-NO apparently and now I have to reload the firmware but the newest version available is 4.02. My ib modifed G-System came with version 4.04. Was it loaded with the beta version that people are talking about or is it an actual version 4.04? I am currently looking into backing up my presets with the editor.

neilbunker 4.04 should be the same as the beta that is available. Did your pedals stop working? The purpose of 4.04 is to fix this bug. If they still work fine, you have nothing to worry about. If they stopped working, you will want to contact TC through the Beta available post that is stickied at the top of the forum. They can get you the 4.04 software, and they would probably like to know if you are having issues.

krubel54 Thanks. I remember initially having success with my ernie ball mono volume plugged with the y cable into the controller's volume jack. Unfortunately that pedal is acting oddly even straight into the amp, so I can't say anything about that pedal until it's working again.

As for my Boss FV-500H, I tried hooking it up to the controller's exp jack. Since the FV500H has 3 jacks for IN, OUT, and EXP you have options to try using it as a Vol or Exp type of pedal. I tried both methods with the appropriate cables (TRS for Exp; TRS to Dual-TS for Vol). I plugged both methods into the controller's Exp jack. The Y Cable method (Vol type pedal) resulted in no communication. Fail. The TRS method (Exp type pedal) calibrated with a horrible 0-23 respective MIN-MAX.

neilbunker Based on other's reports here, it sounds like firmware is not your issue. The firmware issue that 4.04 addresses is for pedals that stop working entirely. On my G, when this happens, the pedals calibrate fine, but will not alter the parameters they are assigned to. I think I've read a few posts where people have reported not being able to calibrate at all.

If the pedal calibration and functionality are working, but not achieving a wide range, I would suspect it is not an issue with the G, but with the pedal itself, or another variable like the cable. There is at least some anecdotal evidence that cable quality can affect calibration range, it might have been bucketbot who reported this if I remember correctly. Maybe he can chime in.

As far as 0-23 being horrible, how does it sound when controlling effects parameters or volume? Do you hear "stepping" instead of a smooth transition between heel down and toe down? If it works well, the low calibration range is nothing to worry about. The G is designed to work with a wide range of volume and expression pedals, which is why you need to calibrate in the first place.

Yes definitely. I was initially using a home made Y cable & I noticed that the Auto On function in the wah block was operating intermittently, ie switching the wah back on without moving the pedal. I checked the calibration range & noticed that occasionally the calibration numbers varied by 1-2 when the pedal was not moving. I purchased a new Insert cable from Thomann & the problem disspareared & I found I was getting a calibration range of around 0-99 with my 2 FV500H's. Both pedals have worked flawlessly since then.

I can only assume that the home made cable was either not providing a constant resistance or had a loose connection which was the cause of the problem.
      • January 2, 2012
    • krubel54
      krubel54 I'm hearing stepping. It's a Boss FV-500H. The TRS cable is a Monster Studio Link ($30 for 1m). The TRS-Dual TS is a Livewire 1m.

I looked to quote Laird but there are too many posts on this topic! Basically he states that if you "think" you might have unplugged the pedal cables while the G System was on, then you have confused the G System and must reload the firmware. That's why I posted this topic. I would have just gone and done it but I don't understand why my ib modified came with 4.04. Is this the BETA that fixes the pedal bugs? I think we're all a little confused and would really appreciate TC taking this more seriously.

Hi. We are a school group new to digital technology. We record choirs/ensembles/acoustic groups etc. We record via Focusrite ISA828 into Yamaha AW2400 multitrack (sometimes monitoring from D-sub analogue outs of ISA to a Yamaha o1v to headphones).

We want to include a Reverb 4000. We will work at 24bit/44.1. We have ADAT I/O facility on recorder (MY8 AT card).

We imagine sending the stereo track from AW2400 (post mixdown) to 4000 and back via ADAT (we need to check if we can come back in to a new layered version of stereo tracks or into regular tracks and re mix to stereo track for burning to CD)

Also: sending individual traks out and back again pre mixdown.

We don't expect a tutorial on 4000 or our AW2400....but can anyone offer any knowledge around our intentions??

we have yet to buy a 4000 (but there is one in cologne...and i am in colgne in 4 days!!!....my wife unfortunately does not see this as a 'sign'..)

    cheers
