Hey all! Hope everyone's safe and well during these strange times.

I'm experiencing a strange issue with the looper: it picks up vocals, but not guitar. I'm getting plenty of input from my vocal mic and from my guitar into the VL3 itself; I can see the meter rise and fall when I play the guitar. And I can easily loop from my vocal mic. But I cannot loop anything from the guitar. The Looper doesn't pick up any guitar input. I've tried setting the Looper Input to "Guitar," "Voice & Guitar" and "All," but it continues to not work. I've also tried using different presets, but that doesn't solve the problem either, nor did adding a 1/4" cable out from "Guitar Thru" to an amp.

Can anyone help? How can I fix this so that I can use not only vocals but also guitar for my looping?

How have you got it wired up ?

Does it work with guitar in =>Bottom jack input and just headphones in headphone socket, with NOTHING else connected ? ( I emphasize the "nothing" cos if you have a lead connected to the "THRU" socket it will mute the guitar. Even if your not using it..)

With guitar in (bottom jack input), headphones and power being the ONLY things connected, the Looper STILL doesn't pick up the guitar signal. My usual configuration adds an XLR mic in, and an XLR L (Mono) out. Same result, though -- the looper picks up the mic just fine. But it doesn't capture the guitar.

Mind you, the VL3 IS picking up plenty of guitar signal -- I can see it on the "Level" meter in the top right. The Looper just doesn't record it. Is there some other option buried deep someplace that's been muted/deactivated/messed with that's causing this??

If you twiddle one of the mini knobs to get to the mix section, In the "headphone mix" part, is there anything there that needs tweaking ? maybe the "guitar trim" or the "loop trim" are turned down...?

It's weird that you can hear it,but not record it.

mmkohl By the way, PetGerbil, thanks so much for your help! I did eventually figure this out: the gate was set to zero, which wasn’t allowing any guitar sound to get through or come out, even though the input meter was showing a strong signal. So it's fixed now!

Just received my VL3X and have explored voicesupport2 a bit. I see presets that I used with my Voicelive Touch 1 that are listed in the voicelive 2 presets library.

I know the how to get these presets onto my unit.

My question is,can all voicelive2 presets be edited globally on the VL3X?

As a starting point,I'm trying to set a master sound for my acoustic guitar on the GLOBAL PRESET to use on basically all my tunes.I've been trying to pull a delay setting from GLOBAL to use on the VL2 POP DUO preset and as I go back and forth the delay millisecond setting keeps changing.

I just want to be sure the issue is occurring "between the chair my VL3x." and is not a crossover preset issue.

Again can all VL2 presets installed on a VL3X from Voicesupport2 be edited by pulling from the VL3X GLOBAL master guitar setting?

brynnerhead1 Never mind and sorry folks! The problem WAS indeed occurring between the chair and the VL3X. I figure out what step I was leaving out.

Does any of you guys have an issue to have channel 17 to 32 to work with X32reaper ?

ALL the other channels respond to Patrick's program (DCAs, Effects Rts, main,etc...) BUT those 2 layers 17-25 and 26-32.
Solos, mutes, transport, etc works fine on all other channels too... I didn't check ReaEQ control as I won't use this function.

I'm able to move ALL faders using X32 Edit so I ruled out an X32 or Reaper bad setting.

The only thing I changed in Patrick's OSC is the channel count as suggested.

    I'm using the very last:
    - Reaper
    - X32 Compact Drivers
    - X32 Firmware
    - X32reaper program
    - Win 10 x64

Does any of you got the same problem or a clue on what's going on?

PatrickGMaillot Hello, Looks like you either: -1-Use banks and did not modify the bank size or bank numbers to reflect the number of channels/tracks to use and ensure you can move up and down. Typical in ca case of a bank size of 16. -2-Do not use banks and limited the number of channels/tracks to 16. -3- Do not use banks and selected wrong track numbers for your sets of X32 channels. Post your .ini file for more help -Patrick

Patrick, I'll be in my studio in 5ish hours and I'll send you my .ini file.

As for now I can say that it's not 2- or 3- those seems correctly set. I don't know if I "use banks" as I just have the board a week ago and still learning the basics (but a long time Reaper user)

Hey P-G could you tell me what is the "RDCA" in the meantime? I have no clue ?. I just configured them as in the X32reaper .pdf? I'd like to understand...

I attached my .ini file.  I had to .zip it for technical reasons?

Patrick@PatrickGMaillot  please, break down the concept  of RDCA" for me/us

      Thank you??

PatrickGMaillot Hello, I'll try to be concise... -1- As currently set, you have X32Reaper banks enable, and they have a size of 16 channels, therefore: The actual X32 faders that will be active are faders 1-16. You could use faders/channels 17-32 to manage a different console, use them as stereo pairs of 1-16, manage DMX, whatever. If you want to see the settings and moves from tracks 17-32 (which you were expecting on faders 17-32), you will need to select bank 1 (bank 0 being tracks 1-16 on faders 1-16), and this will bring tracks 17-32 on faders 1-16. Press User Assign button 10 to bank UP and 9 to bank DOWN. -2- If you wand to disable X32Reaper banks, UNselect the "Channel bank select" tick in the user interface; you may also want to review other settings (and read the documentation... X32Reaper is not an easy program to use; it has many specific features in different areas such as...RDCAs...) -3- RDCA: The concept is taken from the X32 DCA. X32 DCA are essentially a fader control of several channels, all joined under a single control. Say you have all your Drums mikes assigned to X32 DCA#8, mutiing, soloing, and fader controlling DCA#8 will in effect control the respective function of all Drum mikes. Well, RDCA does pretty much the same, but using REAPER tracks. For example, setting RDCA#1min to 63 and RDCA#1 max to 65 will simultaneously move REAPER tracks 63 to 65 together. If over that you also assign REAPER track to X32DCA#1, moving the X32 DCA#1 fader will move all REAPER tracks 63 to 65, and moving any of the REAPER tracks 63 to 65 will move X32 DCA#1 fader. Hope this is ... clear. -Patrick

The unit powers on, clicks a bit but there is no output. I checked the cables, amp and mic - all OK. LED's are on.

I connected to my PC to try Voicesupport2, it is recognised as a USB device on the PC but VS2 says it is already connected as a MIDI device elsewhere and cannot connect. I can't proceed past here to try a firmware update.

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Chambers I fixed it. It seems that the batteries were low (but still working). It stopped the whole thing working even when the power adaptor was plugged in! Fitted fresh batteries as a last resort and hey presto normal service was resumed. Even did the firmware update.

      TC-Mike Hi Jerome,

the Boost and Tap tempo function share the same switch and by default to "boost" is active.

In the Utility menu of your G-Natural you find the "Footswitch" parameter that can be set to "Tap tempo".

If you set delay times and modulation speeds of your presets to a note value, they will follow your tapped tempo, so it is easy to allign your timebased FX to different tempi.

      Best regards, Mike

    Hey, so quickly:

Using a ditto looper, guitar, amp. Signal chain works fine with:

    Guitar --> Looper ---> Amp

As soon as I press the looper pedal on the actual looper, it stops the signal chain and I don't hear anything out of my amp, including any loops I made. Basically everything works fine until I actually start a loop.

    Any ideas?

      BigJR Hi Moblin,

Squidmole I had the same issue as well. It turned out to be power supply related. Try a Boss PSA 120 and you should be golden.

BigJR This CANNOT be power supply related - I used a separate power supply and then also used a VoodooLabs ISO 5 and still the problem persists. When is TCE going to acknowledge they created a bad batch of Dittos and offer a callback replacement?

I'm hoping someone else had this problem and resolved it. I have a fairly complex setup but I think I only need to describe part of it.

I have a VL3 running Dual Mono Out, Neumann KMS 105 and Acoustic Guitar in.

My XLR cables Mogami into a Bose TS8.

Set up this way everything sounds perfect.

If I plug anything else into the Bose Mixer not immediately  but within 10 to 20 seconds I get a terrible Loud Digital Noise almost like a cord shorting out.

I tried different mics, different cords, different channels, muting.....nothing works, the noise keeps happening until I unplug whatever else is plugged into the BOSE.

I have replaced the mixer, I bought a second VL3 and tested it and I get the same results.

    Any ideas?

    Jeff

Still awaiting a response from TC Helicon Support on this so I thought I'd ask my fellow users.

This is my first VoiceLive Unit, but by no means my first modeling device. I seem to be having an issue with additive noise coming from both the XLR and 1/4 inch guitar outputs where there is an annoying high pitched tone like when you hear feedback from a mic is on the verge of happening. It seems to be the most obvious through the 1/4 outputs that connect directly to my guitar amps effects return.

The incident goes away when all the effects are disengaged and is most obvious with gain staging effects such as the drive or compressor with makeup gain at default +13db.

I've had the unit for about a week now and can get by using an acoustic guitar with the output signal coming only through the XLR outs. But when I split the guitar signal off through the 1/4 inch outputs, it is unbearably tiring to hear the high pitch whistle at rest. Sure the noise gate is trying to suppress it, even with the gate closed, but that's another issue.

There seems to be no way to get rid of the annoying static sound that happens when the gate opens when threshold is reached on the noise gate. My Digitech GNX4 while coming up on ten years of age has a very "natural" sounding noise gate that doesn't exhibit a static sound when opening and closing. Note I have tried going through three different guitar amps both through their effects loops as well as into the front input jack. Each have the same result.

Have tried different cables (which work fine with my other gear) and all yield the same result. Just wondering if I should try exchanging it or if this is a common issue that others don't seem to notice. Once again the problem goes away when the effects are disengaged and it is more obvious as gain stages are increased.

If I can get passed this hurtle, I'll really be loving this unit because it really is an awesome concept when all goes well.

Carsten, I think the only difference between my setup and your is I am running the guitar in mono and the vocal in stereo whereas it appears you are running both in stereo. I DO have the noise with the guitar in mono. I am not using a DI box.

Vade's test is spot on. It seems the VL3 noise problem is related to the 1/4" jacks themselves rather than the guitar signal path.

I really want to have independent control of the vocals and guitar levels at the mixer.. Apparently to do this I need to run in dual mono and lose the ability to have the vocals or guitar in stereo.

This is a disappointment for me but not a deal breaker (in the event it is a hardware issue and not a software fixable one, which I have a feeling it is. I hope I'm wrong).

I too hope, that it is a software issue, and not a hardware issue, because that would mean, that it will stay...

It depends on which and how many effect, and how loud they are running.

With the VL2 I never had any extra noises. Perhaps it is a feature, not an issue...

In each case, I don´t wanna use my OUTs in Mono Mode!

What? Why nightmare? I love those three movies.

Hi Dave; My issue may be different than yours in that I have the whine on both XLR and 1/4" outs. I have it regardless of output mode, i.e., stereo, mono, and dual mono. While doing a bit of testing this AM I noted that the whine would sometimes increase slowly as in a slow feedback loop. This happened even with my cardioid mic turned off and facing away from my monitors at ~ 8'. Changing the input gain and guitar gain did not make a significant difference.

    Hi Guys,

I just saw a beautiful Roland Jazz Chorus combo in a local pawn shop for cheap - it's a JC77, 2x10 combo with no FX loop. My previous experience with a JC120 (2x12 combo) was they have great cleans, bad distortion, but take pedals really well.

Anybody tried it with the Nova System yet? If not, I'll bring mine to the pawn shop & see what happens. If somebody has already tried it - please let me know your thoughts

Dante Well, the Maverick deal dried up and I got impatient. So, I found a Mesa Boogie DC-5 combo and I couldn't be happier. The amp sounds huge - without being loud. I will write a review in here when I'm done tweaking all my Nova System patches for the warmth of the new amp.

One quick observation is that my delays and reverbs became much more prominent in the mix, allowing me to fine tune them a lot better. Very nice, and I have them extremely low in the mix, allowing for over-the-top settings later.
