        DavidKnighton Hello Guiseppe,
Are you copy/pasting or typing the code by hand? The code contains both letter 'I' and number '1' so if you're typing by hand, make sure you different between letter and number. Best just to copy/paste the code so there's no risk of typo. Let me know how it goes.

I have two synthesizers, a Korg Minilogue and a Moog Prodigy, which provide unbalanced line-level signals with 1/4" (TS connector) outputs. I have only 1/4" TRS cables. These work fine with another USB audio interface whose instrument input is specified as TS (and thus must be unbalanced).

The quickstart guide for UMC1820 does not specify whether its instrument/line inputs are balanced or unbalanced. When I use a TRS cable to connect my unbalanced instruments to UMC1820, the signal is weak and the frequency response is not flat; it sounds tinny and harsh, with low frequencies attenuated and high frequencies boosted. This signal quality is present both in recordings and in the headphone mix, even when the interface is not connected to a computer via USB. I strongly doubt that it is a software issue.

At first, I assumed the unexpected weak signal and tilted frequency response was due to a faulty input channel. However, when I try another device, a Korg Electribe S, the signal sounds as expected. Unfortunately, the Electribe S also doesn't specify whether its outputs are balanced or unbalanced. However, it is a stereo device with one TRS connector for each component of the stereo signal, so it is possible that it provides a balanced output.

I would like to know the correct way to connect an unbalanced, line-level signal to the UMC1820.

    Possible ideas:

    1. Use a TS cable for unbalanced instruments. If the UMC1820 has balanced line/inst inputs, then this interconnect will ensure that the ring signal is grounded and not open.

    2. Use a direct box to convert the unbalanced signal to balanced.

As I am not in a position to try either of these without making a purchase, I'd like to know in advance if they are likely to solve the problem.

kdsch I wired up a custom TRS cable that acts like a TS; ring shorted to sleeve. This seemed to fix the frequency response issue. Assuming the unit is not faulty, It also suggests that the UMC1820 instrument/line inputs are balanced. I have requested a replacement unit from the retailer to rule out the unit being defective.

The signal has a pretty high noise floor compared to my other interface, so if this behavior turns out not to be due to a manufacturing defect, I'll be looking for a solution with more dynamic range.

kdsch The replacement unit arrived today. Upon testing, it exhibited the same behavior in every respect. I conclude that neither unit is defective.

What I've learned is that I want a pretty low noise floor and that it's very important to read specifications before making a purchase. The level and quality of details in specifications seem to give an idea about the quality of the product.

    Hi to all,
I'm sorry to complain about my new MS40 Near Field Monitors...
At a first hearing the speakers are extremely clear and have a crystalline sound, but when I rise just a little the volume (let's say 1/4 , 1/3 of total) I hear a strong mechanical vibration on bass frequencies on the right speaker... more udible on the rear of the loudspeaker.
The audition in headphone is instead perfect also with a loud volume...
Very displeasing and unexpectable on a Behringer product (even if in the low price zone ).
Can someone help me to solve the problem?

    Good bye to everyone

    Hi,

I've had my M32R for the last 2 years, extremely satisifed of it. I know and understands the routing of the system, did many recordings directly in my DAW (Adobe Audition and Pro-Tools) without any issues. I've updated recently the Firmware to 3.11 unfortunatly since then, no audio is coming in either both DAW's software. My system is a MacPro Late 2013 on macOS Mojave. The systems and the DAW's recongnise the DN32-USB with it's 32 inputs and 32 outputs, but no signal from the M32R comes in. As for playback from my Daw's software, both are running great. MIDI controls work perfectly also. So here's the question, Am I missing something or maybe a configuration in the new Firmware. Please need held.

    Thanks!

Did you also recently update the OS to Mojave? Apple has reset some of the Privacy/Security settings that, by default, turn off the inputs from any incoming mic or audio interface.

    Hey guys,

So I've got my X32 Rack + S16 fully functional now, and I can get everything to record just fine. My band and I rehearse and the levels are great in our mixes, ears, and mains, but the problem I'm having is that the inputs going to my DAW (Cubase 9) are all over the place when we record anything. I'm running a USB from the X32 card to my laptop.

Is there a way to compensate for this other than setting the gain per channel or changing the fader levels in the DAW itself?

    Thanks y'all.

      @AlexMorrison

Hi Alex, the USB output levels can only be adjusted with the channel gains. This makes it possible to play the recorded tracks back through the mixer for a virtual sound check. You may need to check that the channel gains are set to give similar levels on the meters - and adjust faders/sends to compensate for any changes.

    Hi Everyone,

I recently got the M32 Live.  I am using the DAW remote for Pro tools 11.  If i move a fader on the M32 or in Pro Tools they mirror each other perfectly.  But that's about all I can do.  I tried something simple like panning a selected channel on the M32 and Pro Tools will not respond to this command.  I then went to encoder 1 bank A and it will do it for Channel one in PT, but encoder 2 will not do it for channel 2 in PT and on.  Even if that did work, I could only pan 12 channels on PT, since there are 3 bank sand 4 encoders on each.  Is there a way to pan PT from the M32?  It works for the faders, so PT must be getting the midi info.  I've tried all kinds of different routing options on the M32, but no panning.   I'd think this would be something pretty simple.

Also, for no apparent reason, sometimes  one or two of the faders on the M32 start twitching on their own.  Has anyone experienced this?

Does anyone know how to use the panning as a controller for Pro Tools, without using the encoders?  I know it can be down on Logic X, you just have to put Logic in learn mode to learn the midi command being sent.

    Thanks for the Help

      Here goes.
Hit the view button in the custom assign buttons then from the home tab switch to Set A - Select encoder 1 so its highlighted. then select target type "remote" so its highlighted then parameter 1 (that will then use encoder 1 to pan what ever track is in the position of the first channel coming up on your daw. You do this for the Set A of encoders, 1 2 3 4 which are the middle 4 encoders of the 6. Then go back to the assign view home page and select set B and set encoders 1 -4 again to 5 6 7 8.
This gives you pan control of the currently selected 8 faders! OF corse this is not the way you would really want it as you would rather hit the select button on the channel and then turn the big pan knob to pan. Even tech support said there was no way to pan so I have to give myself a pat on the back! Maybe by digging some more there is a better way than this but now we know Remote parameter 1-8 is pan for daw remote.

      Hi,

Just wondered if you found any solution to the twitching issue.

I've just set the m32 up with Pro Tools 2019.12 and fader 13/FX return 3 L/R are doing the twitching thing.

Thanks for your post - it all helps!

      Cheers

RichardYClark Uninstall ASIO4All as this may confuse your PC. Win 10 should be able to use the normal Windows USB audio drivers to feed into Cubase. Can you see the interface OK in Windows Sound set up page?

Does anyone know if it is possilbe to assign a mixbus (or several) to the ADAT outputs of the S32? Thanks in advance!

      Paul_Vannatto Hi Ben,

If you look on the back of the S32, the ADAT ports are labeled as AES50 17-24 and AES50 25-32. That would mean that you would assign the various mixbuses to 3rd and 4th AES50 banks.

    • BenMiller
Roblof Not directly, but you can do it by using the p16/ultranet and/or out1-8,9-16 routing options and use these as a source in aes50 routing.

BillHood If I could go ADAT out from my S16 into a multi-channel headphone amp, and route some monitor mix buses to that headphone amp for 3 of my band mates I could get rid of a heavy stage snake I use.

Anybody heard of a headphone amp that accepts ADAT from s16?

    • BenMiller
LucHenrion It's a good way to use an old ADA8000 again: it would convert ADAT to analog at line level. From there, any headphones amp would do the job. Be careful however with long ADAT cables: normally, you shouldn't use more than 5 meters, I've had success with 10 m cables but it's risky... I wouldn't use this in a "live" setup

How about using an ADA8200? Pretty cheap, Midas designed preamps for other uses. Whatever is assigned to aes50 17-32 out of the X32 is what appears at the adat outputs of the S16. Set up one of your out 1-16/p16 or aux out menus to send whatever mixbus etc you want and assign that category to aes50 17-24 or 25-32. Use adat 1-8 or 9-16 out of S16 to adat in of ada8200 then you get those 8 choices from the xlr outs of the 8200 to a headphone amp or wherever.

I am using the X32 with an S16. I run my stereo in ears from the 1/4" aux outs and am having some strange panning.

With the Aux 1&2 linked I am getting the following.
Mono signals (drums) plugged directly into the X32 (1-8) I hear in center of mix
Stereo linked channels (keys) plugged into X32 (9-16) I hear in stereo
Mono signals (vocals) plugged into S16 on channels (19 & 20) are heard hard left and hard right.

    Channels 19/20 are NOT linked.

When I unlinked the Aux sends to my in ears everything works as it should (however then I have to independently set levels for my left and right ear. hard to do on the fly while playing/singing, etc.

Does anyone know if there is a work around or if I take a regular bus output 1&2 and use XLR to 1/4" from X32 to my Shure in ears inputs?

RichardYClark Presumably you actually mean Bus 1 & 2 linked and sent to Aux 1 & 2 outputs? You should have a pan pot on each of the Sends from 19/20 to Bus1/2 so that you can pan them both centrally.
      • December 10, 2018
    • DavidMattock
DavidMattock I do believe (without actually checking) that I routed the mix bus 1&2 to the Aux 1&2. Both are linked LR to avoid having to mix twice. And like I said if I link the aux 1&2 (to avoid having to mix my left and right ear separately) any mono signal into the S16 pans left or right (odd channels left, even right). Regardless of where I pan those channels they end up hard left or right. Anything plugged directly into the X32 (1-16) works fine.
      • December 10, 2018
    • DavidMattock
RichardYClark I suspect that in order to send the same level to the linked Busses as the Main L/R mix you have selected Sub Group as the send tap. In which case this is probably why the sends end up hard panned L & R. Only if you select one of the other channel send taps will you have panning available to the Aux 1/2 outputs. But you will manually have to set each channels send level independently of the Main mix levels. However if you use the Post Fader sends then all you have to do is to set the Bus send level faders at '0'.
      • December 11, 2018
    • DavidMattock
      DavidMattock So it continues.

I reset the entire X32 rack and S16 and started over. Instead of sending the Bus out 1&2 to aux I sent Bus 1 to my Left input and Bus 2 to my right input of my in-ear receiver. I linked Bus 1 and 2 for a stereo out to my in ears.

I have all my inputs setup the same as mono (and some linked stereo). 1-16 on the X32 and 17-32 on the S16. 1-6 all mono drums mix perfectly to center of the mix. Overheads on 7-8 (linked stereo) mix perfectly left and right. various inputs on 9-16 all work. 17 & 18 both setup as vocals work mixed in the center and then 19 and 20 (NOT LINKED) pan hard left and right regardless of where I place them in the mix. I am simply trying to have them centered as they are also vocals. Other stereo linked inputs work just fine on 31&32, as well as ambient mics on 29&30.

Again if I unlink the bus input channel 19 & 20 both will center in the mix, as soon as I link bus 1&2 to provide a stereo mix it pans input 19&20 hard left and right even though they are centered and not linked.

This seems to be a software glitch in the system and not user error. I'm checking now to see if all firmwares are current.

I'm trying to use a x32 Producer and s16 as interface to record with Pro Tools. I have both x-usb and x-WSG cards. The problem I'm faceing is that I can't figure out how to monitor already recorded tracks and record at the same time. You know, like over dubbing and punching in. I also have a Powerplay HA6000 for the musisians. Ok, this is were it gets complicated. When I'm in record mode on the x32 I can't hear the already recorded tracks and when I'm in play mode I can't record. HELP!!!

Make all the outputs be stereo 1 and 2 or the equal of that in pro tools. use aux remap on the inputs routing page and use card 1 and 2 for the source. You should hear your tracks on aux ch 1 and 2 of your mixer.
