    Hi, just thought I'd share this experience with you folks - there are so many variables with this stuff, in the end you have to use your own ears, but this might steer a few less experienced users in the right direction.

    I am a session muso and bought the Nova to replace a large pedalboard for fly-in gigs (as Australian airlines have started to kill touring muso's with their baggage allowances!). The music I play requires a lot of clean patches, ie. there is no hiding behind a wall of distortion when trying to get a great tone.
    As with any digital converters you have to be really careful about how you set your levels etc. and I discovered this was absolutely critical with the Nova - just a few dB difference when setting up the 'Input Gain' structure can completely change your tone.
    This may not work for everyone, but this is what I found worked the best with my setup (Senn Telecaster into a '68 Deluxe Reverb) and it's not what the manual suggested... (-:
    (I tested this in a studio with an A/B box and an isolated amp in a separate room so that volume etc. didn't cloud my judgement).

    I firstly did what the manual suggested and brought the input level up to unity (playing as loudly as possible) then backed it off a couple. This was definitely not the optimal setting (which was about 20 for my tele). I noticed when playing higher up and digging in, the top end was quite nasty so I backed it off even more - and after going up and down the settings, found the best spot was 14 - nowhere near the unity gain indicated by the Nova. Just a few dB either side of this was a completely different and less usable tone (higher up was nasty, lower was dull and lifeless). So... that part of the setup is crucial to getting the best out of your unit - and I suggest spending a fair bit of time finding the best spot for you and your particular guitar.

    I also noticed (and expected) that there were still some deficiencies in the tone when A/B'd with the straight-in guitar (due to the A/D conversion in and out of the unit) - although have to say it was better than expected. By putting a Keeley compressor before the unit and using a very low compression setting and just boosting (the Keeley also 'fattens' it a bit) the guitar signal ever so slightly it brought the 'through the unit' tone much closer to the direct guitar (of course if you're going to do this you have to recheck your input level settings).

    My last improvement involves the boost option. I disabled it! (if you want to do this, do it before any of the other stuff). I love the idea of having a boost (can't live without one) but with the TC units (I used to own a G-System as well) all you're doing is lowering the original signal before it gets to the boost and then just bringing the signal back up to it's original level when you hit the boost. It is a subtle effect on your tone (by having it lowered a few dB) but it all adds up and this is definitely not the way to boost your signal (IMHO). It would have been fantastic for TC to have a separate Analog circuit for the boost after everything else in the unit. But, considering how cheap these things are - that might be expecting a bit much.

    Hope this all doesn't sound too negative - I think for the money, this is the best unit on the market for this niche - and I have tried them all!!!!

    If anyone from TC is listening... is there a way for the boost button (now irrelevant on my unit) to be switched to an EQ on/off button?

      divil Great advice there's a shame also that the input level is not saved with the bank/patch....having 3 guitars with 3 different output level means trying to find a 'ball park' setting is not the best!

      thanks for sharing you experience with us! I'd like to know something regarding your explanation of the boost function. I guess you're right - when solely looking into the digital domain, the boost can't push the signal higher than 0dB, which means the unboosted signal has to be levelled somewhere below that. But do you really think that the internal leveling of the signal some dB below the max produces a loss of tone? The Nova has a resolution of 24Bits, which is a lot of headroom. Is it possible that you just forgot to adjust the overall output level of the Nova, so that you're now getting a clean tone into your amp that is quieter than when going directly into it? This would surely give loss of tone, especially with a tube amp that expects a proper input level.

      I set the Nova up this way: After bringing up the input level to unity gain, i compared the Nova output volume with the bypassed volume. Hearing that the Nova was some dB below my bypass signal i adjusted the output amplifier of the Nova, which is accessible via the levels menu (advanced mode, i guess) to +14 dB, thus bringing both signals to equal volume. When i now hit the boost, it is definitely a boost, the Nova makes the signal louder, pushes the amp harder, etc. while my unboosted signal is as loud as if going directly into the amp.

      I'm hoping you're right - will test it out. I haven't done a thorough test (for the boost) with the Nova - I did, however, do it with the G-System a couple of years ago and there was definitely tone loss unless the boost function was removed so just assumed they were using the same thing in the Nova.

      Will test it out in the studio this week and let you know what the ears think... if you're right it would mean not needing to take a boost pedal to gigs - which, of course, would make my day. However, I have my suspicions - I know it's 24bit, but noticed that even a couple of dB either side of the optimal input setting was enough to change the tone quite dramatically (to my ears).

    we have a BETA version of the new Ditto X4 firmware available that adds the missing Midi CC support and some bugfixes.

    What’s new ?

    - Program change and CC control as per midi spec (** using only official midi spec unassigned ccs, not 1 to 17, but we can easily change this if you feel strongly about using CCs 1 to 17.).
    - Don't cancel undo on stop button (only after double tap to stop).
    - Properly schedule 2x and half speed in serial mode.
    - Fix memory out of bound reading due to stretch buffers not being quite big enough on edge cases (may have been cause of some instabilities).
    - Free mode now allows serial mode to switch playback instantly.
    - Allows both fade in and fade out: Press fade to start fade, press during progress to force the finish of a fade, press again to start fade-in, press again to force finish of the fade in.
    - Only employ intelligent "groove return" on reverse and speed changes when midi sync is active.
    - Increased time to erase both loops on hold stop.
    - Increased fade in/out time.
    - Double Tap Time reduced to make it easier to tap to stop.
    - Queued mode record set now blinks red light while waiting to set.
    - Various stability fixes.

      soundog ...this looks promising (though I already sent my D4 back due to lack of CC support.)

      FYI, using only unassigned ccs is not a problem, so >17 is fine with me.

      Maybe I'll order another pedal and give this new support a try, as it is crucial for my application. The cc function set looks good, although why no volume control for Loop 1 and Loop 2?

    Hi guys,

    I've recently changed my rig set-up so that the G System is now racked. Ever since using the rack with my ENGL Powerball there's a noticeable hum, I've tested all the cables and they're all working fine. Could someone please offer any suggestions?

    I'm using G System with 2x EBJR exp/vol pedals - Korg DTR rack runer and Samson Power conditioner. I plug the ENGL Powerball + Korg DTR tuner + G System into the Samson power strip

      Bread I'm no expert here but could you take the g unit out of the rack and put it on top of your skb rack so then no metal parts are touching the rack of the g system or anything else. Plug it all in and see if it still hums - if not you know what the problem is - if it still hums then you can fit it back in the rack and try something else.

      Like I said I'm no expert but I think that's what he meant

      2084 It's 3U rack with 3 devices inside it, so it's impossible to separate it from any metal parts unless there's something I can buy to put INBETWEEN them? I've seen plenty of people using the G in the rack with a similar set up and it's not caused any hum issues.

    Happy Holidays...

    ...without recording any riffs this holiday season? Yeah, that sucks.
    My little gem, the UMC22 has been working flawlessly up to my Windows 10 upgrade, not any more.

    Suddenly the interface is not found at all by Windows and some generic "audio codec" driver has taken the Behringer Drivers place. I also get the alarm from Cubase that the input/output from the DAW is not working. You can still choose the Behringer Driver in the Device Setup but I get no sound in our out of the UMC22.

    So, I go to the Behringer site to download and reinstall the latest drivers, which there is none of for the UMC22. Just the generic ASIO4ALL driver, no installation files for the interface itself. After some Googling I try with the UMC Windows Driver 2.23.0, which is supposed to work with several interfaces, this should work...yeah, no it didn't, because the .exe file just says - please plug in your sound card before updating. But it's already plugged in and I've tried the other USB-ports to, there's nothing wrong with my PC.

    So I try to "force" Windows 10 to use another driver for the UMC22, instead of the generic "Audio Codec"-thing by manually extracting the driver from Behringers installtion file and point Win10 to it, but that doesn't work either, Win10 still doesn't recognize that I have the UMC22 plugged in and I can't install it either.

    Anyone with similar experiences that can help? Support-guys?

      FlorianGerstenl In general I don't recommend Win10 at all. I didn't try it, but I read too much about it.

      KonstantinShily I recently bought the same unit, UMC22, and I already had Windows 10 installed (updated from Win7). I am experiencing the same problems - bad latencies with the ASIO4ALL driver, which is now the only driver on the product page.

      I don't really think that the problem lies with Win10, though. Looks like Behringer decided to stop updating the original driver and just replaced it with free generic ASIO4ALL (there are a couple of threads around here with other guys looking for the driver). I mean, if the driver was there, what could stop you from re-installing it?

      Another thing that I have a problem with are underruns/glitches when listening to music/YouTube via headphones output.

      JohanStrom Thanks for your input. My problem is first and foremost that Win10 does not recognize the device at all, I'll worry about the bad latency with the ASIO4ALL driver later.

      When I plug in the UMC22 it is only listed as a a "USB AUDIO CODEC"...not as the UMC22. So when I try to re-install the "real" Behringer-driver, the UMC Windows Driver 2.23.0, it is not possible since, according to Win10, I have no Behringer card connected to the computer...

      It won't work, unfortunately. The driver you are trying to install is the one for UMC202 and up, its GUIDs don't match those of UM2 and UMC22.

      I guess UMC22 used to share the driver with UM2, now both drivers have been taken down. I've found some old ones though. I haven't had the time to test them extensively, but at least the thing installs successfully.

      How compatible are the presets with version 1? When you import them you get non descriptive names like 26 and 28.

      JamesGriffin Anders... I think you're asking for more info on what each preset sounds like, is that correct? If that's your question, my answer is 1) it's very difficult to describe a sound in a way they everyone understands it that same and 2) even if you could that sound would vary according to each user's local set up.. For instance, the sound of a snare is going to have the variables of the drum itself, the head, how it's tuned, how & where the drummer hits it, the mic, position, style of music, etc.

      Take the presets as starting places.. see how they work in your situation. Some will be great out of the box, others you'll want to tweak to some degree.

      And to John, I've really enjoyed having the presets to experiment with and use.. I wouldn't mind if you added some from a few dozen other engineers

      GeeWasenius Well, James... I actually agree with Anders.

      As you put it yourself, it depends on mic placing, what kind of vocal, etc. Hence a description of what use it was created for would offer much more help. Even if you are to use a preset as a starting point, you really need to understand if it is designed for close micing with a dynamic or room micing with a condenser, male singer with SM58 or female with Neumann? Most other presets I have seen out there, be it channel strip presets for DAWs or mixing consoles seem to have at least some directions.

      In conclusion: Nice start guys, why don't you just finish the job

    Well I actually ordered one yesterday. The Rebel Head 450.
    Delivery is expected Wed or Thurs. of this week.
    It is not cheap here in Canada.
    It will be interesting to see just how it holds up to the weekend warrior use it is about to be thrust into.

      The Rebel Head 450 arrived about a week ago.

      Quite a nice (SMALL) package, along with a single dual 10 cabinet.

      Tried this combo out practicing on some tunes I needed to brush up on. Wow!! would be an understatement. I dialed in but did not refine the presets.. To date they are still not dialed right in. I have moved some of the EQ's but they will be dialed in gradually from here on. They will also help dial in the speaker cab You use. Is a great feature.

      The next thing I did was use the amp with each individual speaker cab I own.

      The cabinets do make a big difference in the sound.

      What I have settled on cabinet wise in the TC dual 10 along with my Aguilar dual 12 cab..

      This setup gives a nice round bottom end and nice mid / high definition.. It really does sound awesome..

      I have had one full band practice with this combo and have received thumbs up from the other guys in the band. They just can not believe that such a small package delivers such a huge sound.

      So my weekend warrior rig will consist of the RH450, RS 2x10 & Aguilar 2x12.

      I will carry a standby head just in case but hey that should be a common practice. I just wish it was another RH450 not the 45lb. boat anchor.

      I have used a lot of different gear over my 42 years of playing and find the RH450 very easy to set up & tot around too.

      I guess between now and October I'll get a real good Idea of just how well the little monster is going to stand up as it will be on the road quit a bit over the next 5 months..

      I also broke down and ordered the foot switch RC4 and gig bag for the head. They have not arrived yet.

      The reason I ordered the foot switch is for the presets. I can see a lot of use happening with them just from the short time I have had the head. It will make it a lot easier to switch between them during songs.

      BASSically Well first gig done and behind me with this rig.

      3 one hour sets.

      It took me all of 10 minutes to set it up

      and make final tweaks for the room.

      The amp really packed a punch, filled and articulated very well.

      Volume setting about 10:30 on the dial. running the SR210 and Aguilar 2x12.

      The deep low end I have set up really loaded the room up. So I ended up just tweaking the low control down a bit. 2 clicks on the dial.. All done.

      Room was of a medium size venue.

      This amp was not even hot after each set which surprised me I thought for sure it would be.. Still need to tweak the P EQ's a bit.

      Oh yeah this thing packs real nice into my mini van didn't break my back loading it either. Leaves lots of room for other gear.

      I guess we will find out how the cabinet finish is going to hold out.

      One move - already some scuffs but no finish removed.

      The guys in the band were quite amazed yet again, that this little head could sound so big & accomplish so much.

      BASSically Well here I am again.

      A few more gigs behind me using the rh450 rs210 and Aguilar2x12.

      Amp continues to be solid and tight. You have to watch the tube tone, sound tends to get a little loose if you use too much of it. It was awesome at the last gig maybe because I'm getting it tuned to the Musicman Bongo5 I'm using.. One of the guys asked me if I had turned up .. No was my answer. I was just playing a little harder which came out loud, clear & tight.

      So far I have to say this little amp has been just great. I have no trouble at all with getting my sound out.. and there is lots left if I need to turn up. Having the rs2x10 on it's end sure makes a differance in what you hear from this rig as well.

      Since my last post I have received the travel gig bag for the head just to transport it with some protection and I got the foot switch for selecting the presets & tuning. Yes I bought them..

      The foot switch is very very well constructed and should withstand many a heavey foot on the switches. It also will mute the amp for tuning if you wish.. It is worth the money and you should get it at the same time you buy the head.. You will not be disapointed.

      I used it extensively last gig. worked flawlessly, never even missed a note when changing pre sets during songs.

      The Rs 2X10 is not on the other hand standing up well to the riggers of the road cosmeticaly.. It is already showing wear (scratches and scuffs) from rubbing against other gear.. I guess a cover would be in order if you plan on road tripping this cab to any great extent. I think that if it had been carpet covered it would stand up better with out covers.

      These things do not alter the sound it pumps out ..I just like my gear to stay as new looking as possible.. So don't forget you will need a speaker cabinet cover if road tripping this.

      I have to say it is the best sounding rig I have had the pleasure to use to date hands down..

      It sure saves me carrying the pre amp, power amp combo I have been lugging.

      It has sure taken a back seat. I'm actually thinking of retireing that set up even though it is a year old.. the rh450 just out dose it with tons of tone..

      I'm waiting now for a larger gig where I have to plug into the main pa board. That should be interesting to say the least.

      BASSically Today is Sunday.

      I got in at 5AM this morning from playing a gig up North in cottage country..

      Was a good gig and the club owner wants us back again so All was good I guess.

      I had a great time with my rig..

      Had to put it through a big board last night.. It worked out OK.

      The DI output was supplying lots of signal to the board and it was set up with no real difficulty.

      They left my strip flat so I could come out of the head post with my sound already dialed in. It was real have no hassle..

      Rig worked its heart out and still was not even warm so I guess the engineers have the right size cooling equipment installed in this head..

      Sounds that this rig makes still blowing me away..

      I think for once I spent my money on the right thing..

      The moveable Perimetric EQ's were a brilliant addition as well. You can really dial in with these 4 PEQ's and I love em..

      Rs-210 still taking a beating from the road but is still sounding great.

      so I have a couple of weeks off now untill next gig which will give me some time to play with it some more at home.. More tweak time ..LOL

    Not sure if this has been asked before, but pretty much everyone comes to this forum already owning an amp they like and then trying to integrate the G with it.

    I wondered about from the other angle - is there an amp which is "perfect" for the G System and once set up offers no tone loss or other oddities?

    Also are there amps that definitely don't work well with the G System, no matter how much time and effort is put in?

      The roadking worked with it awesome, and id say the mark V will be just as good which is awesome! Im a HUGE mesa fan, and i've owned 2, but once i cranked up the hughes and kettner I had to say goodbye. I am looking at getting a mesa soon though. I miss the tone.

      Mel Integrated very easily with my Rivera S120 which is a stereo 60W per channel EL34 or 6L6 amp with amazing tonal flexibility. The only issue is older Riveras used momentary contact channel switching which G-Sys doesn't support yet.... something I don't understand because it can be addressed in firmware. The S120 has a properly buffered loop with stereo return with gain controls for send and the returns. Paul Rivera (a legendary Fender designer), who designs these amps, actually knows something about electronic theory which is something I wonder about with some of the amps out there . BTW, they just introduced a line of overdrive/distortion pedals which look interesting.

      Dr_Donovan I guess it's not only a question of the amp model. Pickups, cables, wiring, 4-cable, 3-cable, 2-cable method, rackmounted or not... and so on. All these things have influence on G integration. The more complex your rig is, the more sources of errors you could have. Which does not necessarily means that large rigs are more prone to sound problems. In the end, every rig needs its special tweaking, precisely because the G isn't a 'plug&play' unit.

      When it comes to amps, most likely the FX loop is a critical element for your tonal results with the G.

      And just to continue the list of amps: no problems with my Diezel Einstein and the G on a pedalboard, here.

      Banenis Yeah my Splawn head was no problem at all.

      I think another big thing that would make every amp work a hell of a lot better is if people did their homework before setting up a rig.

      I spent months lurking in forums all over the Internet trying to figure out if I should get this effects processor or that one, this midi controller or that one, this amp or that one...and ensuring that the choices I made along the way would suit my music and would work well together.

      I think too often people are like, "Steve vai uses a g system in that YouTube video so I'm gonna buy one to use with the amp ive had for 11 years." Maybe for some of them that works out and that's great, but I think a lot of those units get returned or underutilized or we end up directing people to laird's white paper and ebtech boxes. And that's just because they want to be told how to set it up, they don't care to understand their gear and how it works together.

      With a few exceptions, most any amp can work well with the g sys one way or another but people need to make sure they know what theyre getting into before they go dropping all these donkey loads of cash and then whining and begging for help.

      So that's my rant. Sorry. To answer your actual question, I don't think any amp could be perfect for the g sys because every g sys user is different and has different needs. My Splawn works perfectly for me but is much too heavy sounding for most, etc.

    Hi everybody,

    I was just interested in peoples opinions on this one:

    I have a Marshall JMP1 and of-course a G-Major with an EL84 20/20 poweramp, I currently have hocked the G-Major up to the send and return of the JMP1's FX loop and am quite pleased with the result but upon reading the G-Major manual I noticed that TC Electronic recommend going from the output of the preamp into the G-Major and then into the poweramp. Not sure why but this never really occurred to me before :0S I had a play and some of the FX do come across with more depth and character and the tone of the JMP1 seems less affected, to be fair the JMP1's FX loop is pretty far from fantastic!

    I just wondered if there are any of you out there with a JMP1 rig and how you have yours connected up?

      This is my first post, I've just signed up ! )

      I run my G-Major in the FX loop of my JMP-1, I found it sounded best in the loop (which I can then also switch on and off per patch and kept it out of the signal path) rather than have it after the JMP-1 where as everything goes through it.       RGR I hav emy G major in the effect loop of the JMP1.. i tried it on theoutputs and could not really tell any difference in the tone to be honest. The reason I prefer it in the loop is that if something goes wrong live, say i blow a fuse/power amp tube or something I can always just run feeds from the Jmp1s amp sim outs to the sounds cool enough in an emergency.

      What do you mean with "also helps if it freezes"?

      I have this issue with my G-Major (it freezes). I connected it how was suggested in the manual (JMP1's outputs to the g-major's inputs, and g-major's outputs to power amp's inputs).

      Do you think if I connect the unit in the FX loop, it won't freeze anymore?

      It sounds strange, but I'll try.

      So... you connected the JMP1's send to the g-major's LEFT input (the right input remains empty), right? and the g-major's outputs to the JMP1's returns.

      raven1a He means that, if you hook the G-Major into the effects loop of the JMP and the G-Major freezes, you can bypass the loop taking the frozen G-Major out of the equation and you will still be able to play through the amp. Connecting it like that won't cause the G-Major to stop freezing. It will just give you a way to bypass it if it does freeze.

      sacerdoth For some reason whenever I hook up my g-major into the fx loop of the jmp-1 I notice a significant loss of gain/volume. Note: even if I set in and out levels to max on the g-major, there's still less volume than the jmp-1 dry (fx bypassed). I'm also using balanced cables that are recommended by tc electronic.

      Can anybody help me with that?

    Hi all,

    Just thought I'd post this. I used to be a g sys user but decided to sell my rig just before xmas and buy an axe fx 2. Although I like what the axe has to offer I'm finding it hard to get what I wanna hear and find myself tweaking patches all the time which can be time consuming and a pain in the arse. I don't remember things being like this on the g. Plus I'm starting to miss playing thru my boogie mark v that I have.

    One other thing that I'm finding hard is getting my solo levels set correctly I end up clipping output 1 on the bloody thing and its annoying. Fellow axe fx 2 owners will say I have the levels set too high but i find if they are not set at that level I can't get a decent sound out of it some would disagree obviously.

    I just wondered if any of you guys have used the axe fx 2 and come back to the g sys at all? I'm seriously considering it.

      So the supposed Holy Grail of effects processors that was to replace all tube amps forever is perhaps not the be & end all after all maybe? :/

      Also interesting that it does not replace your MkV & that you are missing it.

      Often the case that as these things become more complex & versatile you sometimes loose the point of the exercise in the complexity of it all....which is of course the simplicity of good tone & playing the bloody Guitar!

      IMO this is one fo the great things about the produces great tone but has a simple & easy to use user interface.

      Banenis Why don't you just use the axe fx 2 in conjunction with your boogie? Turn off the amp / cab models and just use the fx in 4 cable method with your mark 5. There are tons of guys that use the axe fx without using the amp modeling. Take John petrucci for example. His new rack is way smaller than usual and he's using the axe fx 2 for almost all his fx.

      I'm not trying to disuade you from coming back to the g sys but you've got some killer pieces of gear there and there's no reason not to use them together.

      paulg2uk Thanks for the response guys. I have tried the axe fx in the fx loop of my mark v but again I find myself tweaking every patch when I turn it on. At least with the boogie it has a solo level control I can set and then forget about it. And there won't be any clip lights to worry about.

      Don't get me wrong the axe is a great bit of kit but I think its just too overkill for me. As you mentioned its about playing guitar at the end of the day and I get a little frustrated when things don't work. I don't always get time to keep adjusting things. Experiences with the g sys have made me realise all of this and just how easy it is to get a good sound out of it.

      You can use pretty much any amp sim out of the axe but what's interesting to me is I was only using two amp's models on all of my presets and they were wait for it both based on a boogie sound. I think I'm missing the point here as I already own a mark v and don't really feel the need to have any different amp sims personally.

      I did see that petrucci was using his axe with his mark v's and I must admit that's one of the reason I bought one but that's petrucci and not me. At the end of the day we all know what we like to hear and are comfortable with and for me its definitely the g sys. I've kept my mini amp gizmo so at least I don't have to buy that again lol

      I'll be putting my axe fx 2 and MFC-101 foot controller on ebay tonight I think. The sooner I sell the sooner I can get a g sys again lol

      2nd hand G's come up fairly often on fleabay UK...or maybe you're tempted by the new IB modded version?

      It's still a tad dear in the UK for me though compared to the silver one & I'm happy with the sound I am getting using my silver G with the Sunday driver anyway & I don't really see how the IB modded version could possibly sound better

      I am tempted by the IB modded. Depending how much I get for my axe fx 2 and MFC I should be able to afford one. I had a silver G and I had no complaints with that apart from the weight lol but I don't care anymore. As much as I like the axe fx 2 its very time consuming and although fractal have captured the feel of a valve amp with it there's just something I can't explain when you know you have the real thing behind you.
