      Paul_Vannatto Hi Johan,

Welcome to the forum. Michael Moore has compiled a number of presets that many of us have compiled from X32 presets (or made ourselves) into a categorized package. Here is the link http://forum.music-group.com/showthread.php?10578-Categorised-Presets

RyanHammond I find it easier just to build one. I used to be a big preset guy until I discovered that I was making so many alterations to the presets, it would've been better to start from scratch. Every mic and person is different lol.

      A quick preset would be

      1. Gain: just enough to get the nominal value blinking first yellow

      2. Comp: insert LA-2A (Leisure comp) on money channel vox (100% wet, peak reduction as needed)

      3. EQ: SM58 (most widely used mic) HPF at 100 to 140Hz, high shelf boost at 3dB, some low mid cut and some upper mid cut if needed

4, Put some subtle hall verb on there (-20dB is good) and use some delay for effect at key points in the music (mute when not in use)

      5. If you need a gate, those are a bit more tricky, but I would use an expander rather than a gate if I really needed to. In general, I would only gate the drums and perhaps the guitars if really needed.

AnthonyBradley I recently purchase the XR18 for a two piece vocal setup and ease of use of course...

rather than lug around a lot of equipment I installed everything into

A rackmount case, lift the lid, plug in and ready to go! Then my disappointment!! The vocals!! I played round with this for 3 weeks before attempting to bring it

Out in a gig! I'm using backing tracks but vocals are live! Naturally the tracks are already treated sound so that was easy enough but getting the vocals right is a nightmare! And yes! I do know how to eq in order to get a good vocal sound.. I've been using analogue desk for 29 years and I've tried digits before but keep coming back to analogue!! Anyways, to put it to the test I setup a studiomaster powerhouse horizon 1200 side by side and the power, present and punch of the vocals on the studiomaster was far ahead of the new XR18! There simply was no comparison!! After all the hype about the preamps etc on the XR18 I'm just lost for words! I welcome anyone on here to prove me wrong as it has cost me a lot of time, effort and expense!! Perhaps someone has a particular vocal scene saved that can justify this piece of equipment? Because there is no way I can get close to the belt and presence using a simple analogue desk! I'd need to get a separate preamp to get that sound but then it just proves that these units are not what they claim! Oh I'm using 4 turbosound IQ15s... please! Anybody! Prove me wrong!! And send me a decent vocal setup for the XR18

ZackBoupha It is how you apply the effects. I am having same problem for almost a year until i got help from the members and lots of looking at other's scene and reading. There's lots of upload video from members perform live that sound awesome with this mixer. You might want to upload your scene and have others look at how you apply the effects.

I found this works best for me: Vintage room, hall reverb, Stereo delay, stereo combinator (insert to Main L/R). Don't insert other effects. Instead send each amount of effects under SENDS tab to your liking.

I believe the horrible sound you mention because you are not getting mix delay and reverb, instead you insert a single effect into the vocal channel. This happened to me before, but i could be wrong on your part.

      Paul_Vannatto Hi Anthony,

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Zach that the best thing to do would be to upload your scene file (Upload Attachments below) so that we can have a look and make suggestions. This is the first time I've see or heard of someone having a nightmare with vocals with either the X-Air or X32 consoles. Before you write off the XR18, give us a chance to try and figure it out with you.

I've finally categorised all the Channel, Effects and Scene presets I have found into a set of categorised folders as the XRs don't have any library function. This makes getting to the right preset through your standard file system on a PC or Mac much easier. Look through the posts on this forum for more info on individual presets etc. Many thanks to all those who have contributed so far.XR Mixer Series Presets.zip

I've talked to Paul about this and we think now would be a great opportunity to hear what You think about the different official applications on all of the supported platforms, as they now are beginning to mature but have different workflow and functionality, and how they all operate as a whole.

We want to give the developers a chance to learn what we really like about each official application and also what you really don't like compared to the other official applications and their current implementations. I.e. this is not about feature requests but rather the current applications as how to they currently work, and also feature wise, compared to each other.

Try to post it "table-wise" if possible to provide some easy overview of each app pro/cons.

Moderation Disclaimer: To keep this thread/poll clean and readable, I will remove posts without any warning that I feel deviates too much from this subject. Expressed opinions are preferred rather than discussions and +1's.

RichyRotter don't think you are asking about missing feature, because there is a thread about this.

      In General i like:

      - Ipad app: The look and feel is excellent. Also its easy to operate with them

      - Android App: I like how easy you can modify the layers. This is really a cool feature.

      - Grafical PEQ is a bit better on Android as you can also see the HPF on the graphic

      I dislike:

      - X Air Edit on MAC: The looklike and feeling is very bad. Also, the fixed window size is a big negativ point. Over all, the functionality is there and good, but how it is implemented is like a quick shot. Like an application programmed in the early 80's...

      - on Ipad app: I dislike the flickering meters on disconnected mode. This disturb me when i want to configure a show offline. So, i don't use it at the moment in offline modus because of it.

      - different file formats when you save a show/channel/preset. I would like to exchange the files on the different platforms

      - A big dislike is, that the apps on the different platforms have a different behaivor and a different layout. I would be great, if all the apps has a common surface and behaivor.

this is whats cames up into my mind immediatly. As i sayed, i will not write any missing feature.

DavidSev I'm primarily an android person, I've messed around with the iPad and OSX apps, but android is the only one I've used for real.

Very top of the list: The android app needs side chain on the gate and compressor, like the OSX app has. Especially the gate, the ducker is kinda useless as it stands.

The android app has the low-cut show up on the EQ tab, the iOS app just has the 4 bands. This came to light a few days ago when we were doing some training, and resulted with us having two low cuts and wasting an EQ band. IMO the android app does this right, and the iOS one needs to follow suit. Also the curve on the low cut is slightly different to the curve on a band set to low cut, not sure what's up with that.

A major hole in the Android app is the ability to "reset" a channel, I currently have a "blank" channel preset saved, but it gets the name wrong and is generally a bit cludgy.

On the topic of saving channels, I love it and it's making sound check quicker and easier. An option to only save part of a channel would be handy though, or even just an option to never save the fader position. (On the topic of loading channels with the fader up, a panic mute button on every page would be nice...)

I really like the EQ view on android, and the way the RTA works on it. It can be a bit fiddly on smaller screens and sometimes a bit awkward when you have two points close together, but generally I love it compared to having a bunch of pots. The fiddly could be helped with a "zoom" to view just the low / mid / high.

I also like the way you can reorder channels quickly. As I've complained about elsewhere it's a bit slow to rename them, but good for quickly re-arranging them. With this and custom channel presets I've pretty much given up on caring who plugs into which jack. It'd be nice if we could save the layout as part of the scene though.

Mixing Station has the gate and compressor meters shown next to each fader, that's something the X-Air android app could do with.

The channel overview page is also great, especially the mini copies of the EQ graph etc. The "Main" tab is useless though, it's only got one button.

KevinLaverty Strange isn't it, but I actually like the look and feel of the OS X app. To me the interface is nice and clean, not too many colours to distract and I like the way the PEQ values are displayed below the graph. The iOS app has a little bit too much colour and 'bling' but I can still see me using it more than the Mac app once the meters are reinstated.

On the Mac app, I'd like to see the gain reduction meters on the meter page (like the iOS app) and I'd also like it if the meters on the Mac & iOS apps could agree about when a signal is heading into peak territory (the iOS app peaks a lot earlier than the Mac app).

The latest version of the iOS app was such an improvement that I don't want to come across as being negative but where effects, compressors, gates etc have on/off switches could these switches conform to red background = off, green background = on as I find the current lighter shade of the same colour arrangement difficult to read on the iPad Mini (yes I know I complained about too much colour earlier )

    • Roblof
      MerleSensenig Android:

      - I like the layers on the Android app. I wish the metering screen was more like the ipad app.

      Mac xair edit:

      - I like being able to click on the bus1-6 buttons and instantly see all 16 channels, Aux in, and FX's feeding a particular stage wedge. I get a lot of 'need more me or this or that in my monitor' from the guy's, and this eliminates hunting and pecking to see all that they are getting. BTW, an iphone or android phone app would be great if I can lock them for only their personal mix.

      PC xair edit:

      - Same as for Mac. I recently got a windows 8 tablet. I would love it to have layers like the android, and if it did, would probably use it on stage rather than the android.

      IOS App:

      - Didn't get used to using it as the android initially was far ahead. I like the meters better though than the android.

PhilSmith The most obvious request is for the apps to be more similar to each other, there are so many instances where a function is in one menu on one app and somewhere totally different on another.

      IPad

      Likes:

Use of different colours for send levels in the overview.

The buses and fx send layers laid out on the far right column.

The ability to have narrow or wide fader view to see all channels at once.

Being able to see more data in the main view, eg head amp gain, phantom, phase, link, send levels

The GUI is more pleasing on the eye e.g. meters, colour shading, fx racks etc, (I would not like to sacrifice functionality on the android for this though)

Ability to change exactly what gets linked with channels

      Dislikes:

The grouping, I find it clunky to drop channels on top of each other in the edit channel layout. I cant work out how to swipe right to access the other channels like fx returns to reorder those if desired as I end up just moving channels that I dont want to.

I prefer the layers in android rather than swiping right to see extra channels in the main view.

The advanced button colours, at a quick glance I cant tell if its on or off, they are too similar.

Lack of use of colours in the routing menu

      Android

      Likes:

User defined layers, I'd love to see some user defined buttons as well.

      Fine button

      Mute Lock

      Mute all

      DCA's

Channel safes, I'd like to see some more choices with those though.

Everything seems clear and obvious to me at first glance, it was easy use straight away. Its not as pretty but its functional which is more important.

Ability to use it on a phone

      Dislikes:

The column one in from the right, I feel it could be better implemented. The sends on fader are more immediate on the ipad, there is no need for mute all and unmute all, they could be the same button. Bus master seems pointless. Changing these for sends on fader like the ipad would be better and some user defined buttons. I dont mind scrolling down.

I would like to be able to have different amounts of channels per layer in different layers. This would negate the need for a wide/narrow fader mode.

      No sidechaining

      X Air edit

      Likes:

      Routing page layout

      Dislikes:

The GUI, use of colours/shading are not implemented well, graphics are dull.

      Non scalable window

The fact it references auto mixing and mute groups like it enjoys laughing at us.

So i was thinking about getting an xr18 and then i realized something kind of ridiculous in my opinion. What i would use the xr18 for is to put on a stage and use it as a drop. Then run everything wireless from a remote location. Great, i can do that. BUT if i want to record the band then what??? When i use my rack i just insert the usb flash drive and hit record. But this is not how the xr18 works. It is a computer interface. So now i have to have my computer connected to it and what???...leave it on stage running the whole time? Ridiculous. Why did they omit the basic and very useful 2 track recording on the xr18. The xr16 and the xr12 have it.

i hope they are working on a direct to drive option that can be controlled by the app. This is a fail for anyone who wants to remotely use the xr18 and record.

      JohnDiNicola Dear Joel,

The XR18 is our flagship X AIR model. As many considerations go into a product, we cannot always address every particular use-case. *

Many users are considering the benefits of the XR18 for live use, but the XR18 actual brings a wealth of options to studio recording users as well. In actuality, this was a design consideration. A musician can use the XR18 at home to record, and then easily use it at a gig for live sound WHILE multitrack recording the show:

      -16 MIDAS Designed Mic Preamps

      -Complete 18x18 USB Audio Interface

-P16 Connectivity for 16-Channel Discreet Headphone Monitor Solution

In addition, many musicians actually prefer recording direct to a DAW at a gig as they often have the computer at the show anyway for backing tracks or break music.

We appreciate your input though, and always consider all view points.
      • March 23, 2015
    • Joellee
      NikHolmes Joel -

The clue here is that the USB connector on the X-Air-18 is a B type (like a printer has), not an A type (like a computer has). Any device with a USB B connector is designed to have a computer on the other end - you won't find a memory stick which will connect to a USB B socket.

USB multitracking could be better supported - but this unit is built to a price, and it's a damn fine one, so I'm not complaining (or not about that, at least).

And thinking about it, I wouldn't record a gig straight to a USB stick anyway, because I wouldn't be able to see any meters or indicators which would tell me whether it's working! I'll take a laptop every time.
      • March 23, 2015
    • Joellee
VernonDensler I have to agree on that one. A laptop to record a gig is the way to go. There are other options such as the camera connection kit and an iPod or iPad, but I would still go with a PC if I were recording.

Besides the fact that unless I am doing a live album for some reason, recording at a gig is mostly pointless. We have used small sections of live recordings for demos, but if you are doing something you plan on selling, take the XR18 into a good room and record it right. People are paying for a quality product, don't give them something you threw together from a gig recording and force them to listen to it. In all honesty, if you really want to record a "live" recording get a Zoom or something like that and put it out in the middle of the room.
      • March 24, 2015
    • Joellee
TJMiller As a live audio and recording engineer, I can say if it came down to the choice of a simple 2-Track direct to disk recording option versus a full 18-track output recording option, I'd much prefer the latter. I can get a 2 track recording out of the 18 track option but also have the ability to get a fully mixable live recording that can be mixed down and mastered later. That's far more valuable to me than a 2 track PA mix that may suck when listened to outside of the live environment.
      • March 24, 2015
    • Joellee
RobJohnson I agree with TJ. The 18x18 recording feature was the final selling point for me with this unit over other brands that only do 2 track. 2 track is all but worthless to me. An 18x18 usb doubles as a studio box, you can't get a full 18x18 live recorder and an 18x18 studio box in one unit for this price anywhere else on the planet... not to mention the quality of the pres.

    Dear All,
You may have noticed that we have included new Channel Strip and FX Presets in the Library portion of the V2 Firmware.
These presets come from professional engineers using the X32 in the field. You will find contributions from the following engineers:

Big Blue Meenie Studios (Tim Gilles - NYC Engineer/Producer)
Rick Camp (Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Beyoncé)
    Peter Moshay (Hall & Oats)
Terry "TJ" Jackson (Earth, Wind & Fire)
Whisky a Go Go (Sunset Strip, Los Angeles, CA)

For those of you who are waiting to upgrade to 2.0, you can download these presets at the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ljfs9e9kfg5txkq/X32%20V2%20Presets.zip

AndersWass It would be nice with a Readme-file that describes the presets in more depth.

How compatible are the presets with version 1? When you import them you get non descriptive names like 26 and 28.
      • February 27, 2014
    • JohnDiNicola
JamesGriffin Anders... I think you're asking for more info on what each preset sounds like, is that correct? If that's your question, my answer is 1) it's very difficult to describe a sound in a way they everyone understands it that same and 2) even if you could that sound would vary according to each user's local set up.. For instance, the sound of a snare is going to have the variables of the drum itself, the head, how it's tuned, how & where the drummer hits it, the mic, position, style of music, etc.

Take the presets as starting places.. see how they work in your situation. Some will be great out of the box, others you'll want to tweak to some degree.

And to John, I've really enjoyed having the presets to experiment with and use.. I wouldn't mind if you added some from a few dozen other engineers
      • March 29, 2014
    • JohnDiNicola
GeeWasenius Well, James... I actually agree with Anders.

As you put it yourself, it depends on mic placing, what kind of vocal, etc. Hence a description of what use it was created for would offer much more help. Even if you are to use a preset as a starting point, you really need to understand if it is designed for close micing with a dynamic or room micing with a condenser, male singer with SM58 or female with Neumann? Most other presets I have seen out there, be it channel strip presets for DAWs or mixing consoles seem to have at least some directions.

In conclusion: Nice start guys, why don't you just finish the job

  • Please be descriptive as possible!
What seems to be obvious on your system, may seem completely different in our test setup.
"It doesn't work" is not a bug report.

  • Reproduce an issue! Include detailed steps on how to reproduce an issue in your report: What happened when your were doing what?

  • Verify an issue! Please make sure its not an user error or side effect of something. (It takes a lot of time to reproduce bogus issues here! Time we would rather spent in fixing issues.)

  • Always make sure we know your Konnekt hardware and TCNear software version, OS Version, if its 32 or 64bit, DAW Version (if related to the bug reported) and any other software involved in this bug.

    Happy Holidays...

...without recording any riffs this holiday season? Yeah, that sucks.
My little gem, the UMC22 has been working flawlessly up to my Windows 10 upgrade, not any more.

Suddenly the interface is not found at all by Windows and some generic "audio codec" driver has taken the Behringer Drivers place. I also get the alarm from Cubase that the input/output from the DAW is not working. You can still choose the Behringer Driver in the Device Setup but I get no sound in our out of the UMC22.

So, I go to the Behringer site to download and reinstall the latest drivers, which there is none of for the UMC22. Just the generic ASIO4ALL driver, no installation files for the interface itself. After some Googling I try with the UMC Windows Driver 2.23.0, which is supposed to work with several interfaces, this should work...yeah, no it didn't, because the .exe file just says - please plug in your sound card before updating. But it's already plugged in and I've tried the other USB-ports to, there's nothing wrong with my PC.

So I try to "force" Windows 10 to use another driver for the UMC22, instead of the generic "Audio Codec"-thing by manually extracting the driver from Behringers installtion file and point Win10 to it, but that doesn't work either, Win10 still doesn't recognize that I have the UMC22 plugged in and I can't install it either.

Anyone with similar experiences that can help? Support-guys?

FlorianGerstenl In general I don't recommend Win10 at all. I didn't try it, but I read too much about it.

KonstantinShily I recently bought the same unit, UMC22, and I already had Windows 10 installed (updated from Win7). I am experiencing the same problems - bad latencies with the ASIO4ALL driver, which is now the only driver on the product page.

I don't really think that the problem lies with Win10, though. Looks like Behringer decided to stop updating the original driver and just replaced it with free generic ASIO4ALL (there are a couple of threads around here with other guys looking for the driver). I mean, if the driver was there, what could stop you from re-installing it?

Another thing that I have a problem with are underruns/glitches when listening to music/YouTube via headphones output.

ThomMekelenkamp I got an UMC 22 for christmas but am also having trouble getting it to work. I run win 10 as well. Did anyone manage to get it working?

JohanStrom Thanks for your input. My problem is first and foremost that Win10 does not recognize the device at all, I'll worry about the bad latency with the ASIO4ALL driver later.

When I plug in the UMC22 it is only listed as a a "USB AUDIO CODEC"...not as the UMC22. So when I try to re-install the "real" Behringer-driver, the UMC Windows Driver 2.23.0, it is not possible since, according to Win10, I have no Behringer card connected to the computer...

It won't work, unfortunately. The driver you are trying to install is the one for UMC202 and up, its GUIDs don't match those of UM2 and UMC22.

I guess UMC22 used to share the driver with UM2, now both drivers have been taken down. I've found some old ones though. I haven't had the time to test them extensively, but at least the thing installs successfully.

joanba Same problem than previous version: selecting direct monitoring some channels and DAW main outs are muted. Soloing DAW main outs I can recover the sound but it disables direct monitoring. So I cannot play an instrument at same time than hearing music. I can provide you with two screenshots to clarify the problem.
