We have almost a dozen Clarity M throughout our post-production facility and just recently upgraded some rooms to the new MacPro running OS 11 (Big Sur).  We've noticed when we arrive in the morning to begin working that the Clarity doesn't respond when ProTools is open. We need to disconnect/reconnect the USB cable to re-establish the connection.

Because the MacPro only has two USB ports and we have multiple devices in each room, we are using a powered high-speed USB hub for connections.  We have moved the Clarity to a direct connection on the Mac in one of the rooms to see if this makes a difference.

Has anyone else seen this happen?  I have submitted a suppoirt ticket to TC and will update this post as I hear from them.

ericseaberg It seems to be the newer USB hubs we purchased. Reverting back to an older Belkin I had used before, everything works great. The other rooms are connecting the Clarity directly to a Mac port.

    Hello,

I am new to recording and my equimpent, I was wondering if there is a guide I should use tolearn it all to begin.

Also, I have been having problems recording multitrack. Whenever I conncet my mixer (Behringer XR18) it only allows me to use 2 line recording. I was curiousif there is a feature in the mixer/software thats stopping it, or if it is a problem with my DAW settings or Windows locking me out. I have tried on two different DAW and on both my laptop and PC.

KyleJohnson Hi there, Kyle here with Music Tribe. There are a couple of potential reasons for this. If your DAW is not set to use ASIO audio then you will only get 2 channels. You need to use the XR18 USB ASIO driver and make sure your software set to use ASIO. Also, in the X Air Edit software if you open the SETUP>AUDIO/MIDI page you will see an option for USB Interface that can be set to 2/2 or 18/18, make sure this is set to 18/18.

I use a Behringer X32 at church. We record to a flash drive but occasionally, when we download to our Mac to save online, it shows a file but has 0 for the size and December 31, 1969 at 7PM as the date modified. Other sermons will record fine on the same drive and there appears to be no reason for one to record and not the other. Anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this?

RexBeckett Hi leejackson, is it possible that the USB drive was removed or the X32 powered-off without stopping the recording?

    How would I go about connecting a Mdx4600 to a Xynex802-Usb

Nigel67 The MDX4600 has line-level inputs and outputs. It would normally be connected to channel insert points on an analogue mixing console. The MDX460 is intended to be used as inserted or send/return effects on analogue mixing desks. The Xenyx 802 does not have insert points. It is possible that they could be used as pre-processors for the 802 inputs but this would depend on the signal sources, i.e it cannot be used if the signal is mic level. The only was you could use it would be to send to it from the fx send and return into another input, but you will need to make sure that the input channel that the microphone input is not sent to the mix as you will have delay issues with the audio coming back from the MDX4600. It may be better to record the tracks dry and then add the effects in your DAW software during mixing.

mapex555 Thank you for replying. I’m very new to this. What would count as mic level sources/signals?

Nigel67 Any signal that comes out of a microphone is mic level unless it has a built in pre amp but there aren't that many. A cd player is line level or the audio that comes out of your phone headphone jack. You would use an MDX4600 on a microphone but only when you have increased the microphone gain to a line level signal using the mic amp gain. There are some videos on You Tube that show how to connect a MDX4600 to a mixer using insert points.

Nigel67 Hi NagibAcrio. Although its not something that we would be able to support you with, I see no reason why you would not be able to control the MR18 using a VPN connection. I have not heard of anyone setting up an MR18, but I have spoken to users who have been successful controlling their M32 mixers from remote locations.

    Hello,

We are currently dealing with an issue of sharing the same gain structure for our FOH/monitor and online broadcast mix. We are using a Midas Pro2, DL251, and DL155. We are also mixing "in the box" for online broadcast in a studio not close to the location of the stageboxes.

What recommendations would you give for separating the gains for each mix. I recently saw we could use a DL451 splitter and feel this may work. Is there any other AES50 device, besides a mixer, that can remotely control the DL451's separate preamps (a computer or software)? This would be useful to be able to control the gains, independently of the FOH gains, for the online broadcast mix from the studio instead of locally at the DL451.

Any help and insight would be much appreciated.

Nigel67 Hi pfuentes. I think that the splitter that you are referring to is the DL431. This is no longer in manufacture but if you were able to get hold of one would be a good choice. It has transformer balanced outputs just for broadcast use. This is the link to the webpage https://www.midasconsoles.com/midas/product?modelCode=P0AFB The broadcast outputs are fixed gain Mic pre-amps, or you could use the electronically balanced outputs which have variable gain Mic pre-amps that can be controlled from the DL431 front panel or the console. The other unit you could use is the DL231 https://www.midasconsoles.com/midas/product?modelCode=P0AUZ This does not have the transformer balanced outputs but does still have 24 electronically balanced outputs that could feed your Broadcast console. The unit has 2 mic pre amps and all 24 outputs can be assigned to either. Although the DL231 doesn't have an adjustable gain pot on it so you can adjust gains locally, it would be possible for the broadcast sends to connect the PRO2 up to the DL231, adjust all the gains to a set level, and then disconnect the PRO2. The gains on those pre amps will then stay set, even over a power cycle and any fine adjustments can be made on the Broadcast console. before we go any further, you have mentioned the FOH/Monitor set up. Is the PRO2 doing FOH and Monitor, or do you have another console for that purpose, and what is it? Also, how many input channels are you looking at as this may affect which IO boxes you can use. Have a read through of the DL431 and DL231 manuals from the links above and give more details on your set up and I will help further. Many thanks

Hi Nigel. Thank you for responding. Greatly appreciated. I saw that some vendors still offer new DL431's. Will contact them o see if they still sell them. We are in need of 3 DL 431's (64 inputs). I also saw a video where a Midas Sales Representative stated that the mic pre's can be controlled remotely through a PC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9Rw_1kFjSQ). I just wanted to confirm this. And thank you very much for the insight on using the DL231's. I had not thought of connecting and setting the gains for the broadcast mix and then reconnecting to the front of house system. Can the PRO2 control both sets of gains at the same time or would I have to connect and reconnect from both the A and B mic pre's? Yes, the same PRO2 controls our FOH and monitors (which are 2 wedges and the rest are on P16m's in-ear monitor mixers). We just use aux mixes and send those to the wedges and P16m's. Let me know if you have any other questions on our setup? Again, many thanks for your help.
