I just spent an hour tracking down a problem with the VL3X, and found the solution only by accident.

I was getting distortion of the guitar beyond any distortion effect, overlaying the effected sound of the guitar. I was also not getting the full signal strength and the stereo feed (which I found listening to the Amazing Grace recorded track). The distortion is caused by having the headphone plug of the TC-Helicon combo guitar-headphone cable inserted all the way into the jack. For some reason, inserting this all the way in causes this distortion, as well as a loss of part of the signal that should be going to the headphones. Pull the plug out slightly and you'll suddenly hear it clear up and the distortion disappear.

This seems to be a problem only with the TC-H combo cable. I've tried two other headphone plugs inserted all the way into the jack, and with neither of those headphones was there any problem. The distortion only appeared (and signal was only lost) if I was using the TC-H combo cable with the plug fully inserted. I had to pull that plug out slightly to clear it up. Unfortunately, it didn't seem that secure in the jack then. But I guess it will stay.

NicJonesMT Hi David, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Based on your post, sounds like there is a faulty connection on the cable which is why you need to pull it slightly out.

How long ago did you purchase the device and has this issue always occurred or only recently developed?

      • Fault with VL3X combo guitar-headphone cable causing distortion
DavidStewart I got the cable with the device I bought from TCH last month (bought a refurb from TCH's store on eBay). So it happened first time I plugged the cable in. I guess that's the same as "always."

JasonB81 Hello - Jason From music tribe here - Within your manual you will find the following solution:

      Metronome level
As you can adjust the audio output for the Main
Mix and Headphone Mix independently (see
“Mix knobs”), it’s your choice if the audience
      hears the metronome or not.

So you will be able to use the mix knob in the metronome settings to control where it is routed.

      Thank you

JOHNRYAN Hello Jason, I'm having the same problem. I just want to hear the metronome thru my practice amp during rehearsals but still only get it thru headphones. Appreciate your advice, do I have the settings wrong?

Wondering if these do the exactly the same thing.

I am looking for a device to add a professional touch to my live show. Basically I am after the "tone" feature and some reverb, don't really need anything to fancy. But the cheapest option for me here in Iceland (Mic Mechanic) is costing about 300$. For that price I can get a VoiceSolo used, and I feel that is a lot better value for the money.

I was also looking at the Harmony Singer 2 (same price as Mic Mechanic). Or even looking to buy an acoustic guitar/voice amp thas has built in reverb for the vocals. But with this option I think I would be missing out on the "Tone" feature.

Very confused with all the options! Does anyone have any tips?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated!

kiskadar69 I’m not a big fan of the TONE button these days. The Shape function (= EQ) is very good, but the cheaper TC-Helicon devices always turn on the compressor as well, which easily causes feedback in a noisy situation. In the chain I use a TC-Helicon VoiceTone T1 with the Comp/De-ess completely off and then connect my second vocal effect with the TONE button off.

p.47 of the VoiceLive 3 manual states "Finally, VoiceLive 3 can also read key/scale information from the Monitor In jack." I want the VL3 to take its NP input from only the Monitor jack - how do I enable that?

PedroRodrigues Hi jbreher I think the best option to reach your goal from what you mention is to use the Global Natural Play Source parameter to define a global signal source for the NaturalPlay feature.
Use this parameter if you want to make sure that only audio or control data from a specific source is used to determine key/scale.
The parameters settings are the following:
      On Auto:
VoiceLive 3 “listens” to any audio or control data coming from the Guitar input/MIDI or USB port/Aux input/RoomSense microphones to determine the key/scale that should guide Harmony voices and HardTune
      On Guitar:
Audio received at the Guitar input is used to determine key/scale.
      On MIDI:
MIDI note messages received at the MIDI IN jack are used to determine key/scale.
On Aux: Audio received at the Aux input input is used to determine key/scale.
      On RoomSense:
Audio received by the built-in RoomSense microphones is used to determine key/scale.

jbreher Thanks Pedro. However, I know that already. My question is regarding using specifically the Monitor input to drive NaturalPlay. As I indicated, the manual explicitly states on p.47 that this is possible ("Finally, VoiceLive 3 can also read key/scale information from the Monitor In jack."), but nowhere that I can find does it indicate how one is to configure the unit to do this.
If you know how to configure the VL3 to use only the Monitor input to drive, NP, I would be most appreciative to hear it.

PedroRodrigues Hi jbreher ,Global Natural Play Source parameters can only be set up as mention above,On Auto,On Guitar,On MIDI,On Aux, and on RoomSense

Nigel67 Hi banjo123. This does sound like a internal hardware fault, in which case you will need to go to the support tab at the top of the page and submit a support ticket. However, can you see if your unit will go into maintenance mode to start with. If not, then it is the ticket I am afraid. can I confirm that nothing lights up at all on the screen? When you say that you have tested the power supply, can you confirm that there are 12 volts on the power connector that plugs into the voicelive?
      Turn off your VL3X.
      ► Unplug headphones (if attached)
► Using a toothpick or a small wire (we recommend a straightened paper clip), press the
button that is inside the Headphone jack. The
button is small and at the very end of the inside of the jack. You don’t need to use much
force – so please be gentle. You will feel a
small click when the button presses.
► With the button held down, press the power
      switch on your VL3X.
► Wait until you see the System Maintenance
Screen. You should see the System Maintenance
      screen immediately.

Hey there.  I use the sampler and the mixer channels no problem but I have never been able to get the voice effects to work.  I have no idea why, but is there something I'm missing? I press for example the megaphone button and nothing changes.  Same with the dials. They don't alter my voice at all.

PedroRodrigues Hi Mortehl When you are referring to effects on the GO XLR are you referring to the Mic processing? If you are effectively referring to the Compressor; Gate and De-Esser they are more to process your signal than an effect itself, have you tried to make any changes on an of the processing tools and compare with the unprocessed signal?

kiskadar69 Is the MIX / OUTPUT LEVEL parameter set to 0 dB?
      • August 2, 2020
    • timpoteet
timpoteet It was set on -8. I set it on 0 and I have to crank the mic gain to max to hear anything. I'm testing a new mic and using an unbalanced cord from the voicelive to a guitar amp. could the unbanced line be the problem? when I remove the voicelive and use the mic with the unalanced cord the mic has plenty of volume and works normal.

    • timpoteet
kiskadar69 1. "unbalanced cord": does this mean a proper "XLR" - "TS jack" cable?
      • August 3, 2020
    • timpoteet
kiskadar69 2.The VoiceLive Play XLR outputs should be tested by connecting them to the XLR input of a mixer using a 3-core (balanced) XLR-XLR cable.

    1>presets # 69, 114, 124, 125, 208, 258 are mute ????, any info about that?

DavidStewart There are a few presets that use the Talkbox effect or other computer voice effects. They do not give any sound unless you're playing.
