Hello, please advise, I have a first generation TC Helicon Voicelive touch, once upon a time someone from the community advised me where to download older firmware to fix a problem, when I upload singing to a PC via USB and the music in the PC is connected to singing in one track , older firmware fixed this problem and the vocals were in one track and the music background in the other track.
The current firmware version is 1.2.00 build 482. I remember that the functional firmware version was 1.1..Thank you very much for your help! Miloš, Czech Republic.

PedroRodrigues Hi Milos please be aware that this unit is a legacy unit and unfortunately we don't have a lot of tools available for support, never the less any tools available for your unit will be available on VOICESUPPORT 2 .

I'm looking to back up my ENTIRE Voicelive 3 Extreme, including my backing tracks I've loaded in. Is the method in this video still current? I want to clone one unit to another unit as a back up. Thank you!

voodoofuzz Hey! Yes, the same here. I have a second unit I require for backup. There is no way other than to export/import the performance data for each patch. I believe the performance data file must contain the backing track as well as it is big!! I've yet to test this, I will let you know. I've also taken a photo of all my setup & volumes settings and printed them to keep in my gig bag. It's handy as it's so easy to accidentally alter a volume by mistake. Least you can use this to setup the second unit! I'm confused about backups using voice support when you swap units tho?

FrancoMarino Hi Pedro. Thanks. I have already downloaded the VoiveLive 2 presets via VoiceSupport2. I wanted to know if presets installed on VoiceLive3, VoiceLive Play and others are available and where. II am looking for presets on Beatles songs.

PedroRodrigues Hi FrancoMarino unfortunately the presets are lock to each unit and will not be possible to transfer presets between units. Please go to the could on your VoiceSupport 2 an consider that all the presets available there are the only presets available for your unit.

Using GoXLR on my PC. It works great...for a few minutes...then all the sudden the sound turns off. Meaning I can't hear anything on the computer and it doesn't register on the GoXLR meter.

The solution is unplug the goxlr and plug it back in...but naturally that is only fun for a minute.

    Any insight?

I like my VL3X, it is a great combination of functionalities, but what I am really missing is some MIDI features:

    1. MIDI start and stop
I have not found a way to start and stop a backing track on the VL3X, based on incoming MIDI start/stop commands. Am I missing something here or are there any plans to implement this?

    2. MIDI map feature
I have some guitar effect pedals and preamps that can receive and send MIDI CCs or PCs for changing presets. Could you please implement something like the MIDI map functionality on the TC Electronic G-System or Nova System (possibility to configure MIDI commands to send, for each button on the device and for every single preset each)?

    3. Sequence Recording, including MIDI
On the VL3X you have this great feature of recording a sequence, so that you can automate effect changes during a performance. It would be great if you could also include incoming MIDI commands into this sequence recording. At the moment, it seems, only the keypresses on the device itself are recorded. With other midi capable pedals connected to the MIDI IN/OUT of the VL3X you would be able to also include preset changes on these pedals into the sequence recording.

Please, keep up the good work and please continue to improve the device!

    best regards
    Gerd

LuisLugo That's exactly what I'm looking for with my Voicelive 3. The manual lists just a few MIDI commands related to vocal and guitar effects but surely there has to be many more, like the actions that can be assigned to an external switch and an external expression pedals via the TRS connections at the back. I have just acquired an MC-6 MIDI Controller and I'm at a loss trying to reach this VL3 capabilities via this unit.

      Photologik

I totally agree! The VL3X is a powerful device but lacks quite some functionality! Yes, sequencing incoming midi commands would be great but the simple use of the backing tracks or looping through midi should be ESSENTIAL! How is the device supposed to be in sync with other midi devices if it's not possible to playback or loop through midi commands?! I know it can be a slave btw, but how can the backing track be in sync with a groovebox for example? Looping should work but only controlled directly in the unit! For those using external controllers like me this is a big turn off! I guess TC HELICON wanted this device to be the center piece in a setup and only dependable on itself...poor decision... The more I use it and the more features seem left behind or else I pass days with headaches with no positive results... Atm, I'm only using vocal fx and some guitar fx to complement my rig. Midi, looping and audio routing are a disaster....(with confusing unintuitive modes! There's 3 inputs+backing tracks+met and 2 stereo outputs, why can't we just assign any input to any mono or stereo output?!?! Specially the AUX input going to the vocal output is ridiculous...) The fx are not bad but expected better, specially for the guitar! It sounds quite bad (fake and synthesised)! Even the booster that should just clean boost the signal brings in artificial sound! .... But well, that's another story and I'm done complaining... Unfortunately, I don't think there will be any firmware update, the device has quite some years since it was released and profits from it are probably enough so, why care? The TC HELICON "flagship" says it all to me and although it's entertaining, it's far from professional use, it remembered me that we learn from our mistakes, which means that next time I'll make a better choice for sure

Does the voicelive play have enough gain for an SM7B mic?  Does it have an onboard preamp?

    0 692
    • Frank00
      DavidKnighton Hello Frank,
Yes, the Voicelive Play has a built-in preamp with a dedicated control knob. The user manual specifies to use the DYNAMIC MIC setting for dynamic mics like SM58 or OM5. This tells me the device is more or less tailored for use with the more common dynamic vocal mics, but since every person has a different vocal range, the preamp should allow quite a wide range of SPL. Looking at the SHURE SM guide, you can see the SM7B has a much lower output level than SM58 by comparison, so you'll end up using much more gain level on the preamp. How much gain level really depends on the person standing in front of the mic, so it's difficult to give a clear answer. If you're a strong winded vocalist, I would say go for it, but if you're soft spoken, then you may want to do a little more research. Here's a link to the SHURE SM guide for your viewing pleasure.

MartyCansler Hi Frank, did you ever try the voice live play with the SM7B?

      • TC helicon voicelive play as a preamp?
Frank00 I can confirm you do not need an additional pre-amp if you have the Voicelive Play and an SM7B. I just tried it. With the Soyuz Launcher and my voice through the SM7B, I turn the input gain to 11-12 o'clock on my Focusrite 2i2 with phantom power on to get a consistent green signal. Using the Voicelive Play and the SM7B, I turn the input gain to the 2 o'clock position (no phantom power required) for a consistent green signal.

I just bought a TC Helicon PerformVK and using as soundcard with USB audio to a windows DAW.

I cannot find the way to switch off the direct output to main outs of the inputs because i want to process the Mic signal in the DAW. The output is always a mix of USB audio AND the mic input. Any solution ?

MarcoAcquadro Thank you Pedro , but i dont think this answer to my question. i keep on earing the voice on the Vk outputs even if i mute the DAW channel so the output is ALWAYS mixed with my mic input and i dont want it. Its like the LOCAL ON OFF in the keyboard for explanation. And i have another question about midi in. i tested 2 daws but the midi signal on the midi in port is not transferred to pc even if i have the port available and selected.. is it a bug ?

    • MarcoAcquadro
PedroRodrigues Hi Marco please consider that the only possible USB implementation is the one mentioned below in the same way that I will leave below the only possible MIDI implementation. Regarding USB audio please be aware that there are 4 inputs and 8 output channels for USB audio in PERFORM-VK.
A driver is required for both USB audio AND MIDI use,it can be found at
      tc-helicon.com/ products/perform-vk/support/
      USB IN
      CH 1 Backing Track L
      CH 2 Backing Track R
      CH 3 Dry vocal in
      CH 4 NaturalPlay IN
If no signal is transmitted to the product on USB audio channel 3, the product will use analogue in for the voice input.
So, you could use channels 1&2 to input stereo tracks from your DAW but sing into the product via your mic.
Please note that channel 1&2 input is NOT passed to the USB outputs, but IS passed to the Main analogue outs.
If you use a computer for backing tracks, they will get sent analogue to the PA. Volume control for those tracks happens at the computer.
NaturalPlay IN is not connected to the audio output. It is used only for NaturalPlay chord input.
This is intended to allow you to use a “guide track” for NatualPlay that you may not want heard in the mix. It could be dry guitar chords or piano chords, with different voicings or placement to create your desired harmony output.

      USB OUT
CH 1 L processed vocal, Keyboard/ Aux in (same as what is on main outputs, less the audio received on USB in
CH 2 R processed vocal, Keyboard/ Aux in (same as what is on main outputs, less the audio received on USB in 2
      CH 3 Dry Voice input
      CH 4 Not used
      CH 5 Dry INST IN R / Aux L
      CH 6 Dry INST IN R / Aux R
      CH 7 Harmony Voices L
      CH 8 Harmony Voices R

Please be aware that the PERFORM-VK responds to Control Change (CC), Program Change (PC) and MIDI Tempo (not MIDI Clock) information. To block incoming CC and PC messages, hold the Set button while powering on. Note data will still be accepted in this state.
For convenience, we have mapped many PERFORM-VK CC’s to the Behringer UMA25s controller keyboard.
The “UMA25s Mapping” column shows the button or control on the UMA25s related to each control.
MIDI PC Messages The product’s 3 presets correspond to Program Change Bank 0: 125, 126, 127
MIDI CC List The following chart shows a list of all available control changes.
The MIDI channel can be set by holding the Set button and pressing a note on a connected MIDI keyboard.
The MIDI channel on which this note was sent will be used as the MIDI receive channel.
      IMAGE 1
Regarding the RPn/nRPn Implementation, the RPN 0: Pitch Bend Sensitivity. This is a standard way to change pitch bend range.
When it comes to MIDI Tempo, the Perform-VK responds to incoming MIDI tempo and will adjust system Tap Tempo accordingly.
When controlling harmony via MIDI, in either Notes mode or NaturalPlay, it is sometimes desirable to have one section of the keyboard designated to sending that control information. It could be the area that your left hand is, to play chords of harmonies.
In order to designate an area of the keyboard to respond to, a Split Point is set.
Any notes, either above or below the split point, are deemed useable by the system. Notes outside the range are rejected.
To set the Split Point, hold the SET button and press the note on your keyboard that you want to act as the split note.
Then, to choose a split ABOVE that note, release the split note and press a note ONE SEMITONE ABOVE your split note.
To choose a split BELOW, release the split note and press a note ONE SEMITONE BELOW your split note.
This creates a split, above or below, with no transposition.
In order to set a split point AND transpose the incoming MIDI notes, you will choose a different note in place of the ABOVE/BELOW notes mentioned above. It will seem a bit confusing, but does allow you to make both a split above/below point AND transpose either up or down.
      Image 2
In the chart above, “X” is the split note, the point at which you want to split the keyboard, as explained previously.
To facilitate things like “split above, but transpose down” we need to have settings both above and below your split point, that is where the chart comes in.
For example, if you want to split ABOVE middle C, typically known as C4, but transpose DOWN so that C4 is actually C2, you’d do the following:
      1. Hold SET
      2. Press middle C (C4)
      3. Press the note 6 SEMITONES DOWN from middle C (F#)
If you want to split BELOW middle C (C4) and transpose up so that C4 is C6, you’d:
      1. Hold SET
      2. Press middle C (C4)
      3. Press the note 2 SEMITONES DOWN from middle C (A#)
You may need to experiment a bit to figure this out, but it does give you the ability to set your split point, split direction and transposition very quickly.
      I hope this helps.

      Thank you

Hi! Is there some sort of block diagram that what goes into a guitar processor. I can't understand why the drive turns off the amp, and the compressor lives its own life, can work on its own as an Overdrive and not respond to the output equalizer...

PetGerbil If you've got that diagram, then I assume you've got this one ?...
I'm not too sure myself what goes where, But I think the "drive" block just replaces the gain part of the "Amp" setting when activated, leaving the other settings of the "Amp" unchanged.
At a guess, this is because it is much quicker to swap between 2 or 3 settings of the "Drive" part, rather than have to reload into memory all the settings of the "amp". Most of which wouldn't need to be changed if all you need is more gain.

PedroRodrigues Hi Matthew, can you please confirm that you did you save your profile before or know where it was saved before?
To confirm please go to system -> global settings and see if the files are in that location
From your description this may be caused by a windows issue.
As Windows did an update or even if it didn't and for some reason your audio isn't playing where it used to/how it used to.
Here is our no-screwing-around guide to getting your audio back to how it was before.
Step 1: Check your Windows Audio Devices.
One of the most common issues that comes up after a Windows update is that Windows has magically reassigned audio to devices that were previously disabled, or to a different TC-Helicon device. Make sure that the following defaults are set (screenshots below):
Recording: Chat Mic (TC-Helicon GoXLR) - Default Device & Default Communications Device
Playback: Chat (TC-Helicon GoXLR) - Default Communications Device | System (TC-Helicon GoXLR - Default Device

It is also crucial to make sure that your levels are set to 100% in Windows and that the audio device itself hasn't been muted by Windows as well.

Step 2: Check the Inputs & Outputs of the individual apps that are having an issue.
Go into each app and make sure that the input and output is assigned correctly. To be safe, toggle the input/output to another device, save it, and then toggle it back to the correct one. Whenever possible, do not use "Default" and instead use the actual device.

Step 3: If both issues still aren't fixed, double check your Routing Table & Fader assignments.
If everything seems to be routed properly in Windows, then we want to make sure things are set up correctly in the GoXLR App.
