Setting up G system

Newbie needs advise-setting up my g system with my Koch twintone 2 head. I followed the instructions in the manual pg. 25 using my koch head as a preamp/power amp and I get a signal but the volume is at a fixed level and will not react when I adjust the volume from the amp head. What am I doing wrong??

Re: Setting up G system

Sounds like you haven't enabled the insert loop.

Re: Setting up G system

Thanks for ur response-I set up the insert loop and am not getting any sound. Then I took it off and tried going to a basic set up of straight into the amp (no preamp) and now get sound but the effects on the g system are not audible-only some wahs but all other presets are not audible (ie. delay). Very frustrated-any ideas? Definetly not a plug and play unit.

No - it is NOT a plug-and-play unit.

The search feature of the forum is your friend. Commisserate a bit with it.

Be sure to use the serial loop with the Koch.

In the interim - here is a little "light" reading to start:

Re: Setting up G system

Thanks Laird-incredible amount of information. Followed all the directions of turning the insert loop and lock on and checked my connections over and still getting no audio. The g system is showing a signal but the tuner is not working either-its as if there is no signal from the g system...hmmmm...still searching...stubborn-gonna figure this out. Any ideas appreciated!

If tuner is getting no signal and G-System is showing signal, then odds are you have one of three problems:

1) The connection from the G-System to the amp is faulty.
2) The connection from the amp FX send to the G-System is faulty.
3) One or the other volumes on the amp is all the way down - or the amp is on standby - or it is turned off

We should isolate this as follows:

a) Remove ALL the connections between the G-System and the amp
b) Plug the guitar into the amp.
c) play and make sure things seem fine that way.
d) connect the guitar to the G-System Input
e) connect the g-system insert send to the amp input
f) Select the "all bypassed" patch
g) make sure the proper g-system input is selected
- "rear" if the G-System brain is mounted under the pedal
- "front" of the G-system brain has been placed in a rack separate from the foot controller.
h) make sure the insert loop is ON
i) Set the input gain on the G-System to about 10db
j) play and see if you get a signal through the amp
h)

Re: Setting up G system

Thanks Laird. I went through your steps and did get a clean tone. When I tried to go back to plug into the serial output the tone immediately shuts off...hmmm...could this mean something is wrong with my Koch twintone 2 Head or is it the g system? Thanks again for the advice.

Ok - next steps...starting from where we left off above:

1) Connect the amp send to the G-System insert return
2) Connect the G-System output to the Amp Serial return
3) Set the output level to 0db (no attenuation)
4) Set the loop headroom to 2db (for now)
5) Check to make sure that the amp FX loop is turned on.
- I know on the Koch that it can be bypassed using the footswitch.

Re: Setting up G system

Thanks Laird. Followed your steps and got no audio. I also checked my Koch manual to see if there is a way to shut off the loop but nothing. The footswitch with the amp is to activate the 3 channels on the amp, a reverb switch, and a boost switch.

Check that the insert loop is ON AND that the insert LOCK is ON.

If both are on and you get no sound, then ensure that the Volume and output levels are both at 0db.

If you still get no sound then plug the output of the G-System into a mixer or other input that you KNOW is working and see if you get sound.
