Firmware 1.05 won't take

Trying to update to Firmware 1.05.
Win 10 Home
Model D first comes up as USB Device not recognized.
Delete device.
Power off and on
Comes up as Model D in Audio devices.
Start Update
Model D Connected.
Click Start
Wait about a minute.
Update Failed.

I have tried 'Run as Administrator'.

I have installed the .Net 2.0 as listed in directions, because I did get the Model D not connected error.

Re: Firmware 1.05 won't take

I have exactly the same problem as Chris Rose is describing. My unit also came with v1.02 (from the second batch delivered from musicstore.de). The 1.05 updater fails after about 30 seconds. I'm running Win10 in Bootcamp on a Mac Mini.

So this means my unit is one of the faulty ones which can't be updated?

Hi Carl,

Unfortunately I'm not able to tell if it's not working because you are running Windows 10 via bootcamp on your Mac Mini or if your Model D is the root cause. I've not yet heard of anyone updating their Model D using windows 10 specifically via Bootcamp, but I suppose that should work.

When updating your Model D firmware, please ensure the following:
- That you don't have any other USB MIDI devices plugged into the PC during the update process
- That you don't have any DAWs or audio production software(s) open on your computer during the update

Can you also please confirm if the following happens on your end:
- During the update process before hitting the UPDATE button, open up a "Windows Explorer" window (where you can view your computer's folders and external connected drives) and see if an extra drive (USB Drive or Removable Disk etc.) appears in the Windows Explorer window after you start running the 1.0.5 updater tool?

If you adhere the first two points and then nothing appears for that last point then I'd say it's likely your Model D is also experiencing this update "bootloader" problem. Just to be sure though, I'd also try running the update on a dedicated Windows 10 computer and see if that works.

Please let us know how things turn out.

Re: Firmware 1.05 won't take

The Model D is the only USB device connected apart from mouse and keyboard. No other software running. No extra drive appears when starting the Updater app.

I will try to find another Windows 10 PC to test with. I believe however that running Bootcamp on the Mac practically makes it a hardware Intel PC, it's not a virtual PC. But I will try the last option as well.

Re: Firmware 1.05 won't take

Update: I reinstalled my BootCamp partition with Windows 7. I have also acquired a second Model D that came with 1.05. The new unit can be updated without problem, I actually downgraded it to 1.03 to be able to set the pitch bend range. My first unit won't update with any of the updaters. So it's one of the bad units.

I'm not sure what to do with it now. Getting it swapped might be cumbersome as they sell out so quickly. Getting it repaired means I have to send it abroad somewhere as there doesn't seem to be any service centres in Sweden.

Both units have mod bleed, btw. The second unit also goes about 1 Hz sharp when the Oscillator Modulation switch is engaged. The first unit does not do this. Seems like precision in manufacturing could be improved...

Have the exact same problem

I'm on Win 10 Pro.

Can't update 1.03 to 1.05 without getting the " "Firmware Update Failed! Please restart Model D and try again".

I have tried everything suggested in this thread but it won't work. Do i wait for Behringer to get something working or do i have to send it back? I bought online from a company that i'm not sure if they are located in my country, so i don't want to send it abroad.

Hi Krister, welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this with your Model D. Please reach out directly to our CARE support team, they will be able to properly determine if you Model D is affected by the "boot-loader" issue described here. If it is, then the only options would be to either swap the unit out for a brand new one from the retailer where you purchased it, or send the unit in to one of our authorized repair service centers for a proper fix. Unfortunately this is a hardware issue that can not be fixed with a firmware update.

Of course please feel free to direct message me here in the forum if there's anything else I can do to assist you. Smiley Wink

Update to my Original Post

I have just received my Model D back from the Music Tribe Service Center in Las Vegas.
It took a little while, but my unit has been repaired. It returned with Firmware 1.0.5. I was able to update to 1.0.6 with no issues.
The unit returned to me with all the original packing I sent, bubble wrapped in a substantial outer shipping box and a half roll of bubble wrap protecting the contents.
Now that there is a service center fix, I would recommend this route for anyone else with the updater fail issue.
Step one- register and get a service ticket started.

Re: Firmware 1.05 won't take

I should also report back. I sent mine from Sweden to the UK service centre. Picked up by the courier on a Monday afternoon and it was back in my hands on Friday afternoon the same week.

It came back updated to 1.05 so I could test it by updating to 1.06. It did have a scuff mark on one of the wood sides unfortunately, which is unnecessary. But other than that, really swift handling by Behringer.
