Boom Mic and Xenyx X1832USB

I've got a Xenyx X1832USB mixer and a Sennheiser Boom Mic (K-3U) and I'm trying to use them together.

I can get sound, but it's very quiet. I've up the gain but the sound quality drops substantially. I've used this mic with a zoom H6 and it works well, so I don't think it's the mic.

Is there some setting on the mixer that might help?

Hi Chris @mrchrislackey

Welcome to the forum. That mic is a condenser type mic which requires phantom. Do you have the phantom turned on in the mixer?

Re: Boom Mic and Xenyx X1832USB

The K3U is in fact only the power unit.

It can have an internal battery, but works fine with phantom as well.

There are 3 actual mics you can screw on the K3U: ME20, ME40 and ME80 (different patterns).

I have a pair of K3U/ME40's, great for drums overhead!

I do have phantom power on, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Again, it works. It's just a lot quieter than my other mics.

Re: Boom Mic and Xenyx X1832USB

I just checked my scene file (X32 Rack).

For drums overhead the gain is at +38.0 dB.

So pretty high, they need a lot of gain indeed.
