2 DL 16s and 1 S16

I need help connecting the 3rd stage box. I get green lights on the 3rd box but do not know how to access the channels on that 3rd box. The flow is dl16 TO dl16 TO s16 . What settings do I need to make on my Midas m32 to access the 3rd stage box? (s16)

Re: 2 DL 16s and 1 S16

Interconnectivity should be Console(A\B)>DL16-1(A), DL16-1(B)>DL16-2(A), DL16-2(B)>S16(A)

1st DL16's preamps are in AES50A\B 1-16
2nd DL16's preamps are in AES50A\B 17-32
S16's preamps are in AES50A\B 33-48

(Assuming 1st DL16 is in mode1, 2nd DL16 is in mode2, and S16 is in mode3)
1st DL16's XLR outputs will be fed by AES50A\B 1-8
2nd DL16's XLR outputs will be fed by AES50A\B 9-16
S16's XLR outputs will be fed by AES50A\B 17-24

^All this "A\B" stuff depends on whether you're using the AES50A or AES50B socket on the console to connect to the stagebox.

Although you've got 48 preamps there, the console can only mix a max of 38 of them at a time (4x blocks-of-8 + 1x block-of-6 via the AuxIn Remap.) Due to the aux-in remap only having access to the first 6 signals in the AES50 stream, I'd consider re-ordering the stageboxes as Console>S16>DL16>DL16. That way the S16 preamps can hit the AuxIns, and your more expensive preamps (the DL16s') can be used for ch1-32.

Re: 2 DL 16s and 1 S16

So...will my IEM PM1-16 be affected by adding this stage box?

I may need to reconsider using the stage box this way as re-ordering stage boxes as you mention would not work in our setup. I just thought I could add a stage box and just assign the channels within the 32 since I'm not using all of the inputs on the DL16s.

They shouldn't be, as long as the DL16\S16s are in mode1-3. Assuming they are, AES50 signals 33-48 coming from the console will make it to the stageboxes' ultranet socket. As long as routing>AES50A\B 33-48 is set to P16 1-16, you can run your P16s off any of the stageboxes.

You can just tack the S16 on the end of the 2nd DL32. It really depends on how many inputs you're using and how nicely they fit into the blocks-of-8. My suggestion was just to ensure you get the most out of the expensive (DL16s') preamps. IMO it doesn't make sense to run a lot of mics through the S16 if you've got unused DL16 preamps.

Re: 2 DL 16s and 1 S16

I am actually wanting to run a couple of keyboards through the S16. I'm still confused on where I "find" the keyboards on the 33-38 on the Midas M32? The M32 seems to show only through 32. Do I need to change settings on the S16? Not sure about that either. Thanks for your help.

Re: 2 DL 16s and 1 S16

The AES50 stream is wide enough to do 48x48, and although a full-size m32 can have up to 169 sources connected at once (local preamps, remote preamps over AES50, DAW returns via the expansion card etc,) it only has enough DSP to mix 38 (+the 2-track USB) of them at the same time. These 38 signals are selected on the Routing>Home page. 4x blocks of 8 for inputs 1-32, and 1x block of 2/4/6 as the AuxIn Remap.

eg if you've got console (A)>DL16>DL16>S16, and keyboards in preamps#1-4 on the S16, then the part of the AES50 stream you're looking for is AES50 A 33-40. To get those keyboards onto input channels for mixing, you'd go Routing>Home and set inputs1-8 to AES50A 33-40, and your keys should then be on Ch1-4. The problem is that this displaces whatever used to be feeding ch1-8. This is why it's important to get the stageboxes and the mics into the right preamps so you can fit everything into the blocks of 8 and the aux in remap.
