M32 FOH, X32 Monitors, DL32 Stage Question

We Have M32 FOH, X32 Monitors, and a DL32 Stage Box

When using the X32 for monitors, can I use the outputs on the DL32 for monitors or do I have to use the outputs on the X32? If I can use the DL32 outputs what is the routing setup?

I have tried several different routings and so far nothing seems to work using the DL32 outputs. I have DL32 Outputs 14,15 an 16 for FOH and Subs and I would like to use outputs 1 through 8 for monitor sends from the X32?

You can use either or both the X32 and DL32. Whatever port you use to connect the X32 to the DL32 (lets say you used the X32 B port to connect to the A port of the DL32) In that case use the X32 AES50 B outputs routing menu. The default setting for the first 16 slots should work out ok-which is "out 1-8" and "out 9-16" Then for your Outputs 1-16 routing column you need to assign what you want to exit from those 16 slots. It will use mixbus 1-14, Main L for 15 and Main R for 16 by default. Out 1-8 and out 9-16 refer to those same 16 output assignments. If you changed nothing with the AES50 output routing, a full sixed X32 and a DL32 will have the identical ouputs. You can use either. In general the XLR out routing menu assigns the Mixer physical XLR's only, the AES50A/B output routing menu assigns the connected stageboxes XLR's, depending on which port is connected. IF you have a smaller X32 like a Rack that only has 8 XLR outs the output assignment will perhaps be such that 7/8 are set for Mains. If set up like that (and still using default aes50 settings) your DL will have the mains come from XLR 7 and 8 also. To change that just simply change what is assigned in the outputs 1-16 menu in the appropriate numbered slots. BTW you need to use the DL32 A port side to allow preamp control, the B side will pass the inputs to a mixer but will not allow preamp control only trim.

Routing the M32, X32 and DL32 is the real question. If the M32 is connected from A to B on the DL32 and the X32 is connected from the DL32 B to the X32 A, I can not figure out how to get outputs 1 thru 13 on the DL32 for monitors and Outputs 14, 15 and 16 from the FOH M32?

It's my understanding that the 'B' port on the DL32 (and s32) is mainly for cascading to other stage boxes. Although a mixer can access the 32 inputs from either 'A' or 'B' ports, we can only send an output through the 'A' port. Therefore, both consoles must be connected together and the DL32 needs to be connected to one of the mixers. I think Paul recommends the monitor mixer be connected to the stage box (DL32).

[FONT=Verdana]The M32 in that case has to do the output routing. Sorry I neglected to mention that the A port connected side of the DL, besides preamp control, also controls the DL output assignment. My (not so great) explanation was referring to the master mixer's, M32 in your case, XLR outs and the DL's XLR's being the same. A second mixer connected to the B port will control it's own XLR outputs only from its own routing menu and can't dictate the DL output assignment....well there is a way but it's convoluted, its first 16 aes50a outs show up as inputs aes50a 33-48 to the master mixer related to the DL internal 32 ch shift. So if you set the master mixers first 16 outputs to aes50a 33-48 instead of 'out 1-16', it would work. 2 possible (easier) other set ups are switch the mixer ports and allow the X32 to be master and connect to the DL A port, then it can control the DL outputs for monitors and the preamp settings. FOH M32 on port B can then use its own 14, 15 and 16 out routing menu to send for FOH speakers etc. If the DL preamps were set up properly this should be no problem. FOH will still have +/- 18 db of trim for each ch. The other option is to not use the DL B port at all and piggy back the M32 to the X32 and then connect the DL 32 to the X32. You can set the X32 to have Gain split enabled after if you want. Very sorry I was so unclear.

EDIT: In the above (+32 shift) scenario the x32 would still need to have its output 1-16 menu set up for mix buses 1-X and in its aes50a out 1-8 and 9-16 set up to use "out 1-8" and "out 9-16" The master M32 will then see those on aes50a inputs 33-48 and by the M32 assigning them: aes50a out 1-8=aes50a 33-40 and aes50a out 9-16=aes50a 41-48 the outputs of the DL will then be what the X32 desk sent. Down town and around the bend.
