Streaming mp3-music from the Xair edit app to the mixer on stage.

X air edit (PC and Mac-version) Feature request: Streaming mp3-music from the Xair edit app to the mixer on stage. This way backgroundmusic or backingtracks can be started from within the Xair edit app. Otherwise you would need a cable from your laptop to the mixer on stage to play mp3-music. This would break the wireless idea. Could this be done? At the moment this is the only dealbreaker i have. If this could be done i'd be running for the shop to buy an Xair XR18.

You don't want to stream music over wifi in a live situation. It's just not reliable, even less so on 2.4 GHz band. maybe you should lokk at the XR12 and XR16 which can playback audio from USB storage.

You could alternatively you a host laptop which would have your player and music on it, and control it via the splashtop app(or similar) or midi command. I run with a virtual dj remote app, splashtop, and X Air, they only thing I'm missing is remote pfl.

my version of this problem

Hello. I use samsung note pro 12.2 tablet for XR18 control. On stage I have my PC with backgrounds and backing tracks. I use extra wifi router without internet connection ( intranet mode). And through my Android phone - note4 and microsoft remote desctop apps i can see my PC desktop and all files on my phones screen. I set so, that the music play only from my PC. All others apps need the internet connection - it cost money... My version is for free. Yesterday i worked in military training center in artillery range. I had not any internet or mobil internet connection - in this big field from all sides was forest... my system worked good, without errors. Today I found the same microsoft rd client apps for iPad, but to control PC iPad need internet connection... I try use this system without extra router - through XR18 wifi - it works not... but it works through mobile phone - paaring devices in hotspot mode.
sorry for my bad English.
best wishes!

Re: Streaming mp3-music from the Xair edit app to the mixer on stage.

On the XR 18 Air, it appears you can play WAV files from a USB stick. Looking at the physical interface on the mixer, it will require a gender changer.

How do you navigate WAV files on the XR 18? It's doable on the X32 family via the iPad app as long as the WAV files are in the root. Looking at the X Air app on an iPad in Demo mode, I see nothing.

After the 16th input fader there is an "Aux In" fader. I am assuming that is two channel? If I select "Input" on the app, it looks like I can assign the two "Line In" connections or any two paired USB channels. Is this how you would assign a WAV file from a USB stick for playback? If so, how do you navigate? Start/Stop, which file, etc.

Believe it or not, this is a killer for me to be able to remotely start/stop a track.

Re: Streaming mp3-music from the Xair edit app to the mixer on stage.

No, there is no playback from a USB stick on the XR18. That is why it has a type 'B' USB connector since it is a slave for using the XR18 as an 18 input/output audio interface for your computer.

However the XR16 and XR12 have a type 'A' USB port so that you can play or record from and to a USB stick. But you can't use them as an audio interface for your PC.

Airplay with Apple Express router

Hi Bert, I am using an Apple Airport Express (AAE) for my router, connected to the XR 18 via ethernet. The internal router seems to be working good, but I am so concerned with all the neg I have read about it. I am connecting the mini 1/8 out on the AAE to Aux Ch 17 on the XR18 via a 1/8 to 1/4 cable. Now I have the ability to use Airplay from any of my IOS devices, and wirelessly stream music to the XR18 Ch 17. I hope this makes sense. It is working great for me.
