Upgrading UMC 204 firmware with Windows 10

Hi folks,

I just bought a UMC 204. I installed the "UMC Driver 3.29 for Windows 7-10" with no problems, and restarted my PC. I see my device in the UMC Audio Control panel, and audio playback works (see pic below).

However, I can't upgrade the firmware on the device. I downloaded and extracted BEHRINGER_UMC_DeviceFirmwareUpgrade_v1.12.exe, then ran UMCAudioDfu.exe. This produces a a message saying "The driver DLL required to access the device is missing".

I don't understand this, because the UMC driver is installed and seems to be working. Am I supposed to install something else too?

Figured it out

OK, so.. 5 minutes after posting that question, I found the solution.

The UMCAudioDfu.exe file included in the firmware download did not work at all. Maybe it only works for older versions of the UMC Driver, I don't know.

However, the Windows 7-10 UMC Driver installs a UMC Audio Firmware Upgrade shortcut in the start menu. Run that, and it will bring up a window:

At this point, you browse to folder where you expanded the firmware, choose the appropriate .bin file for your device (mine was umc204-96k_1-12_dfu.bin since I have the UMC 204 96kHz model), and hit Start. The upgrade should then proceed.

I've successfully upgraded my firmware to v1.12.

Re: Upgrading UMC 204 firmware with Windows 10

Mark Port: it looks like you have installed the driver only. You need to download the firmware file, run it, and then pick the .bin file from the folder that it generates.

Here's the complete set of steps, as well as I can remember them.

[LIST=1]
  • Go to the Behringer downloads page for the UMC204: https://www.musictri.be/Categories/Behringer/Computer-Audio/Interfaces/UMC204/p/P0BCI/downloads
  • Download UMC Driver 3.29.0 for Windows 7 to 10 and Firmware V1.12. Expand both .zip files.
  • Run BEHRINGER_UMC_DriverSetup_v3.29.0.exe and restart your computer.
  • Run BEHRINGER_UMC_DeviceFirmwareUpgrade_v1.12.exe. It will generate a directory containing serveral .bin files. (photo here - https://i.imgur.com/zAZHe2N.png )
  • Open the Start menu and run the shortcut UMC Audio Firmware Upgrade.
  • Browse to the directory from Step 4 and select the .bin file that matches your UMC model.
