Re: X AIR Best Wifi Practices

The only thing I learned from the wifi video is that you have known about this since NAMM and haven't done anything to fix it. As I said in my other post, the reason an external wifi router works better than the internal is that the receiver sensitivity must be set too high on the built in router, change that and 90% of the issues would be fixed.

Re: X AIR Best Wifi Practices

I just did my first job with my XR-18 this past Friday. This was in a rented hotel ballroom typical of what you would run into for many jobs. I used an inexpensive Android tablet for most of the night until the batteries died and I brought out my personal Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 to finish the night. The inexpensive tablet actually felt quick and responsive, but I could see the wifi bar display drop a bar as I got forty feet away and if I went to the back of the room, I still had a connection, but the display was one bar of wifi. I found myself thinking about wifi repeaters and replacement antennas. When I switched to the Samsung tablet, I noticed that I had solid full bars wifi reading anywhere in the ballroom, even at the back. Both tablets seemed the same around the house, but at a gig, the difference was striking.

This was just one night's experience so I won't make any broad determinations quite yet, but it seems that not all tablets are the same when it comes to wifi strength. .

Re: X AIR Best Wifi Practices

There is a big difference between having low signal strength and interference. In situations where you have interference, boosting the signal strength only makes things worse.

Re: X AIR Best Wifi Practices

With interference, you should be able to just change channels.

Re: X AIR Best Wifi Practices

Can anyone recommend iPad and Android apps that check the available channels for traffic like is mentioned in the first video?
