will my poco work on asus p5q (or any p45 chipset mobo)?

hi

is anyone here who tried to install poco card on asus p5q mobo? will it work?

im thinking about changing my mobo to asus p5q because im regulary having a problem with the "unknown device" error on my current setup. i tried changing slots for other devices because i cant change poco's pci slot as it is the only one where it fits into my pc-case. i installed the newest drivers for everything i have (uad, mobo, graphic card, e-mu) and i tried different drivers for poco (1.9.3, 2.2, 3.1.0.21). finally i reinstalled my operating system to a new one and it works a little bit better now, but i need to boot my computer several times when it finally recognizes my poco card.

my current setup:
evga 650i ultra, intel core 2 duo e8400, radeon x1650, 2gb ddr2
+ powercore element mk1
+ uad-1
+ e-mu 1212m
working on windows xp pro sp2

Hi goro,
not p45, but p43 here. Everything is working well here, but only with SP2. I tested this again. With SP3 unstable behaviour on my system.

hi there, thanks for reply
you mean your poco is unstable under sp3 or your computer as a whole?

Re: will my poco work on asus p5q (or any p45 chipset mobo)?

Unstable behaviour of the whole system when all pocos are enabled and I am working with Samplitude (sometimes bluescreens). If I disable all cards and run Samplitude only in native mode, everything is ok. So for the moment i stay with XP2 and wait for VISTA drivers.

Re: will my poco work on asus p5q (or any p45 chipset mobo)?

I have a poblem with mk1 and/or element in my P5Q deluxe mobo (or in my magma chassis connected to this setup). Mentioned cards are not always recognized. There are no problems with my mk2 and P5Q deluxe (in the pc itself or in my magma chassis with P5Q deluxe mobo). There was one thing to do to get stable setup with mk2 - I have to use my PCI_2 slot for mk2. PCI_2 shares irq only with the LAN. I had a lot of problems with my mk2 card in PCI_1 slot (irq shared with graphic card and some USB ports). Anyway try to put your mk1 in the pci slot which doesn't share irq with many other slots / devices - graphic card.

cheers, bgor

Re: will my poco work on asus p5q (or any p45 chipset mobo)?

I have the P5Q Mobo... have tested it today with the Vista beta drivers and it appears to work OK with a single PCI MkII card.

Re: will my poco work on asus p5q (or any p45 chipset mobo)?

the problem is that pci pocos cannot share IRQ's. So you need to put it in a non-shared PCI slot. Only PCI slot 2 (i think, check the manual) on a p5q board is like that. When you put your card in that you'll have no more problems Smiley Wink
