Well, so far I have a headless Pi 2 running Raspbian with x11vnc installed for control and Rhythmbox for audio playback because I've used it forever and I like its features. And I've ordered a UPS hat and installed its software because the whole sound system is going to get yanked out of its wall socket and packed up immediately at the end of a show and the Pi still needs to shutdown gracefully. I'm also looking at a Behringer UCA202 to be controlled by the FOH laptop via USB/IP or VirtualHere or similar USB sharing software on the Pi. That goes to the XR18's Aux in and Headphone jacks for talkback and PFL. Does anyone know of something better? I've seen some glitches reported when using the Jack or ALSA recording utilities with 18 channels on a Pi. Can anyone comment on that? I've also loaded a Rune image onto an SD card but haven't run it yet.

I plan to use the 18/18 USB interface, so analog noise from the Pi shouldn't be a problem. Using a Pi 2, I'd love it if I could: - Record all 18 tracks from USB (set-and-forget) - Play backing tracks and dead-air filler music to the same USB - Stream a talkback from the FOH device to the same USB - Stream the analog PFL back to the FOH device (because I can't see how to map it to USB and because I've tied up all 18 tracks in that direction anyway by recording them) ...all simultaneously. Am I nuts yet? :)

Aha! When I reply, it cancels my subscription. Seems like a bug to me.

Yeah, you're probably right, Bob. I dual-booted to UbuntuStudio for my last gig and used the Linux app (after explicitly installing the 32-bit libraries), and the touch worked just fine. So it probably is Windows 7 itself that doesn't work. One of these days, I'll upgrade to 10 like it's been bugging me about, but only if I can pause or transfer things that need to work immediately on-demand. I know I got it from somewhere on this forum - I just can't find it now - but the command to install the 32-bit libraries on 64-bit Ubuntu and its derivatives is:
sudo apt-get install libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libasound2:i386 libc6:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libc6:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libgcc1:i386 libxcb1:i386 zlib1g:i386 libpng12-0:i386 libxau6:i386 libxdmcp6:i386
Wow, this really took off! (and I'm still not getting e-mail notifications despite subscribing) FedEx tracking says that I should have all the parts I need to try the RPi solution today. I'm still not sure if I'll end up with the stock Raspbian or Rune or something else, or whether the playback/recording will be on the FOH laptop via remote USB or on the Pi with remote control, but I'm pretty sure I can make it work somehow. I'm leaning towards the Pi doing all the audio work if it can, just in case the network drops out.

Glenn Adams;67532 wrote: Not sure this is what you are trying to do but, a USB connection to a PC can record all 18 channels and play them back. I sometimes use 17/18 on playback from a DJ software application. The only problem is both the DAW to record and DJ app can't use the same USB port at the same time. So at half time I shut down the DAW and open the DJ app. When I am at a smaller show I will use an Airport Express router that has an 3.5mm audio jack on it and I patch it unto 17/18 direct at the XR18 and play tracks from the iPad. We're a live band with an occasional backing track, so I think we'll be okay there, as long as the WiFi holds out and the USB server doesn't crash. I'll just play the backing track(s) from the DAW. Definitely some testing required before going live. Might want to check that out? Hmm. Now there's an idea! May or may not be exactly like that, but it looks like a promising lead to research. Thanks!

Since the X-Air app doesn't stream audio...at all...I got an IOGear GUWIP204 (networked USB server) to hopefully allow me to use the 18/18 USB port on the same WiFi that I use for control. After discovering that I can't do this on the built-in hotspot (no real network, only device-to-XR18 connections allowed), I added an external router and *almost* got everything talking. I can control the XR18 just fine, and the IOGear's app can connect to a flash drive just fine, but when I connect to the XR18 via the IOGear, Windows 7 always bluescreens. A direct USB connection works like it's supposed to, but I can't do that while running FOH. Anyone have experience there? Specifically remote audio on an XR__?

We just developed a brand new and intelligent algorithm that basically requires no controls or adjustment. However this is only planned for a later release date, hence we ask for patience. Warm regards Uli I hope this algorithm works at low levels too. I bought two FBQ2496's in succession for our analog house system because I thought the first was defective. Turns out, according to Behringer's support, it simply doesn't work at our clip-safe levels with huge dynamic range but still sounds clear. Raising the level causes the clip light to come on about halfway up the meter, even with professionally mastered music. So it's basically useless for us. And I'm still fighting feedback.
