Thanks for that response. If I am mixing from a laptop, then I have to have a static mixing table/booth, i.e. I'm not walking the venue for most mixing tasks. If I have to have a table, what's the advantage of a laptop + X32 Rack + X-Edit vs. having an X32 Compact? Is X32-Edit better than the interface on the X32 Compact? Or is it just the cost and weight of the X32 Compact that make a laptop a better choice? Because in both those cases I can still keep an ipad around for walking and tweaking from various places in the space, or during sound check when on stage tweaking monitor mixes. The only other advantage I see of the rack over an X32 compact is that with a rack I can drop it on stage with no snake.

Hi all, I'm considering upgrading from my XR18 to an X32-Rack for the AES50 expandability. All my mixing takes place on the ipad, not on a laptop or via a console. I'm curious to know how X32-mix compares to XAir on the iPad in terms of ease of use, configurability, flexibility, etc. Am I going to be disappointed, frustrated, and/or overwhelmed? The basic approach and capabliities of the two mixers are very similar, but are the user interface paradigms of their controlling ipad apps also similar? Anyone made the switch (in either direction) and have experiences to relate? Finally, is there some advantage to switching to using a laptop with mouse for the X32, i.e. does the iPad app lack functionality that the desktop versions has? Thanks, -Clint

I do want it to adjust the usb gain but I don't want it to touch the pre-amp gain. It seems to do both in my testing. That's problematic because the mic gain levels now may not match what they were when the usb snapshot was taken. The usb snapshot and its mic snapshot pair are intended to be a timeless way of saying "all knobs on usb" or "all knobs on mic." There is a way around this, which is before switching to usb snapshot, to save a snapshot as a "go back to this" which has source/input settings with the source set to mic and the correct gain, switch to the usb snapshot, tweak faders and EQ and such, switch back to the "go back to this" snapshot. I was just trying to avoid that step of creating a new snapshot each time.

I am controlling an XR-18 from an iPAd. I want to create two snapshots that _just_ change the source setting on the 18 inputs, one "usb inputs" setting to set them all to usb (for virtual soundcheck) and one "mic inputs" to change them all back to mic. What I specifically _don't_ want is for the gain settings to be changed when I move between the two. But when I create a snapshot whose scope includes the 18 channels but whose parameters only includes "source" it has no effect to load it. If I include source + input, it does the right thing to the source, but it also loads the gain...which I emphatically don't want. Is this a bug? Is there a workaround? Am I misunderstanding how this works?

I'd like to purchase 3 Turbosound tfx122m-an monitors to work with my XR-18. I'd like each to be wired with CAT6 to ultranet. My question is: how does each Turbosound know which P16 channel it is receiving from the XR-18? I want to make sure that's possible.
