I was getting the pops again, so i unplugged from the passive extension cord and plugged into a cheap 10x usb hub, that does have power going to it. I thought that power was just for the ability to charge stuff, but I guess it does the extender thing, too, because I've been pop free, ever since, for maybe a week now! Thanks for the advice!

Now I use the shortest one I can find and all is well. Keith Ah... mine is on a usb extension, so I can have the computer in the next room (no fan noise), with the usb going thru the wall, and also, the x32 is on a rolling desk, so I can get behind it.

Starting from scratch, if I boot the x32 and then the Win7 computer via usb, I will usually get a clean sound, without problems. Most of the time, the x32 is just being used as a soundcard, playing whatever, from the computer (foobar2000, youtube on FF, etc). But then, I will be working, with no sounds running, and I might hear a pop, and see the meters jump. If I attempt to play any music, simple youtube or Studio1 playback, I will have lots of popping and clicking. It is random and not present on recorded tracks, thru S1. So, I usually wind up having to reboot the computer and x32, and *usually, that fixes it, for a while. I may go days and weeks without problems, or sometimes, the problem occurs, the next time I reboot. 1. What gives? B. Is there a quicker way to fix, without a full reboot of the puter? Like I am pretty sure i've tried disable/reenable in device manager, but some quick solution would be great.

reasons for doghouse: I want to stow a router in there. and the power cord, an aux cord, maybe a talkback mic, etc. I would use the doghouse to take strain off the cables, possibly velcro strap the snake trunk, etc.

One thing, right off the bat is SKB is lighter, by about 30 lbs. It also looks like SKB is smoother, maybe easier to shove around, in the van. Any other considerations?

I want to set bus 7 to post and bus 8 to pre, but they seem to always change in tandem. They are not linked, in a pair.

"Analogue" and "Input" are two different things in X32Land. Unless you're recording and playing back simultaneously, the preamp won't have any affect. Try it: record something, stop the recording, play it back, and at the same time adjust the preamp gain (NB that's preamp gain on the Setup>Preamps page, NOT the normal "gain" encoder in the channel strip, which when dealing with a digital signal (eg from a card in or other X32 desk) changes from preamp gain to -+18dB of digital trim. OIC. The preamp dial changes to a trim dial, when you set the routing to card. And, I see that the preamp and trim are independant of each other. When switching between local and card, the two retain their settings. This is, indeed,. a good thing! So, basically, leave all the trims set to 0. I did the experiment, just to see: Put a drum machine into channel, via di box. adjust pre until it only barely clips, sometimes, on x32 Channel on DAW (sonar) says the peak max is -1.3db record the drum machine (peak still at -1.3) play the track now peaking at -1.2 change routing to card, track is playing thru x32 trim is at 0 all channel strip stuff off solo the track, big meter on x32 looks like about -2 if i bump the trim up to +1, the meters start to clip only barely, just like in the begining. So, it's really with margin of error and at least it's on the low side, so tracks from the daw shouldnt ever clip the x32. Grrrrreat! I do agree with the pros and cons of VSC, as noted, above. In my case, this mix is going out to a livestream feed, so what's on the VSC will be almost exactly what is heard by the audience. Thanks guys
